Well well well. The poor man’s Euros never mind Workd Cup. If and when England win a tournament that none of the decent nations give a shit about, will this be a surrogate international trophy and a new world order in football? It’s all going to get very confusing with knock out matches being held all over the tournament, pretty much as with the 2020 Euros.
Don’t much like groups with just three teams. Will this country’s clubs actually going to release their players unlike with the friendlies? Like fuck they will.

Re: The Nations League
I quite like the idea, kancut. The groups have 3 or 4 teams but each league has 12, 15 or 16 teams. So each group winner goes to the groups semis, then winners to the finals. Winners of the lower groups get promoted and worst team in the groups gets relegated. Plus spots for the Euros. Better than shite friendlies IMO.

Re: The Nations League
You could well be right Carlos but again the same issue with the clubs not releasing their players or only allowing them to play for a single half a la friendlies but if it makes the matches competetive and watchable then great. Should satisfy the craving for football in between the big tournaments.

Re: The Nations League
That could be a factor, kancut, but I presume as an official UEFA sanctioned tournament, things might be a tad more stringent.

Re: The Nations League
Looking forward to it, Lawnsaidh. Gives an incentive for teams to take it properly as it is a fall back for the playoffs for Euro 2020 - much better system than 3rd placed teams in Euro 2016 qualifying going in to playoffs, plus the League A top four teams going to a netural venue tournament is excellent. We'll also see a team from the D league at the Euros, but it probably won't be the likes of Gibraltar, San Marino etc as there's teams like Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan in there. There's a group meant to be full of minnows which has Kosovo, Malta, Faroe Islands, and Azerbaijan - wouldn't fancy being in that one.
Scotland have drawn Israel and Albania - who we have never played, yet they've been playing international qualifiers for fifty years!
Wales, Ireland and Denmark in one group should be quite good. Nul points for the coaching maestro Giggsy??!!
Roll on September.

Re: The Nations League
Ah, yes, a tinpot tournament that's beneath England's dignity to even be part of, a bit like that World Cup they held in Uruguay in 1930. No-one ever heard of that nonsense ever again, did they?
It does seem a bit over-elaborate, though. Was this devised by Mike Parry, by any chance? It sounds like one of his ideas, that confuses complication with intelligent thought.

This will displease the big clubs even more when the calendar is shuffled to accommodate Qatar 2022.
