Traditional season opener began today as Essex capitulated to a disappointing 187 all out against the MCC.
Don't have high hopes for Essex this summer - avoiding relegation would do for me. A lot of things came good for us last season and can't see that being replicated this year.
Cricketer Magazine with the fixtures wallchart is a welcome sign that winter is over.

Winning a match would be a welcome change.

Haha. Leics do seem to go on long barren runs. Hoping Northants get promoted, but it's unlikely. So a decent 20/20 campaign seems more likely. Not that I'm that big a fan, but it's good to be successful at something.

Looking for a quick return after relegation. No way The Bears should be in the second tier.

Just the 38 games between 2012 and 2015. Hoping for an improvement this season, we made some strides under Andrew MacDonald which was totally lost last season, at least this time we have a visible coach and a club legend in Paul Nixon who will get the fans onside but, as ever, results will be the key.

Hameed already out for Lancy.
Only a couple more games to impress the selectors.

Presumably he has some credit for being best of a bad bunch in the Windies. Hard to imagine any selectors putting much value on any cricket played in the current English conditions.

Here in Cornwall the league season has been put back by a fortnight to mitigate against the dreadful winter we've had. Crazy that the county championship are having to run fixtures halfway through April. Yorkshire v Essex is a big fixture and it'll probably dribble out to a rain effected draw played in front of 200 shivering pensioners.

Oxford MCCU's three games against counties have yielded a total of 33 overs. So two/two and a half hours cricket. Fortunately, Northants game at Lords is ok at the moment.

Congratulations to the cricketing authorities for turning the premier domestic tournament into a joke.

If you're on Facebook, this is a pretty good page I've found recently, devoted to County Cricket;

The BBC Sport preview of the season was dreadful. Division Two's only mention was Sussex's new coach Jason Gillespie. Yorkshire and Surrey-heavy as usual.

It's no surprise that the test team struggles is it; with games too early and then crammed in in at the end of the season. That is hardly likely to produce top quality batsmen or bowlers.

It is worth buying The Cricketer this month, for their preview of the season.
