A few crashes and minor chaos but a good flat stage one.

Should this be the TdF thread or make a new one? Up to you?

Well it was chaotic near the end that's for sure. Thankfully all the major players are still involved. It's always a worry that you might lose a contender in the first few days.

Great Q&A with Peter Kennaugh on ITV4 just gone. A restful change from the football watching the French countryside amble along. Do like David Millar summarising as well.

In the early days of C4 coverage, even if it was only 30 mins a day, Greg LeMond got caught in a rain-induced split in the field, and it took him almost all of the remaining race to catch, and overtake, "Cappucino". Happy days!
Who else remembers the Puy de Dome? They never go to the Massif Central now, more's the pity.

Had to look it up, Jimmy, but looks familiar. From Mr Wiki and a shame:
According to Jean-François Pescheux, since the construction of a rack railway, and because of the very narrow road, the Tour will never come back to the Puy de Dôme, its last ascension in the race being in 1988

Since we're on a trip down memory lane ... Abdoujaparov's crash in Paris. I watched that live, and was convinced he was dead. To this day the single most awful thing I've seen on TV that didn't involve Keith Lemon.

Yeah remember that as well, grim. But he was a great sprinter.

Another pile up near the end. Sagan wins though.

My favourite ever sprinter and, yes, to both the 'assumed dead' bit and Keith Lemon.

Got into cycling during the LeMond/Fignon tour (87?) where LeMond won by 7 seconds in a highly-unusual final day TT.

Without googling, I have a vague thought in my poor old head that Fignon was the last Frenchman to win the TdF.

With Googling, it was Hinault in 1985.

Without Googling, 1989. Fignon was 50 seconds going into the final day time trial, and LeMond won by 8 seconds, which I think was the only ever TT on a last day finsihing on the Champs-Élysées. Just checked and it is:
