*GAME*

Image

The 16 matches in Round 3.
Played over 6 sessions from Saturday 22nd December to Thursday 27th December.
Matches are First to 4 sets. Points system for the game shown below. Pick the winner and you win points:

Image
1. Predict the score of every match.
2. Play a bonus on each of the first 5 sessions, for double points. So 5 in total. Write *bonus* next to your choices.
3. Predict the player to have the highest match average in the round (15 points if correct).
4. Predict the player to have the lowest match average in the round (15 points if correct).
It'll be Gold-Silver-Bronze for the top 3. We can go to an extra session to settle ties.

The line-up of matches is partially complete, and will be confirmed in full at the end of play tomorrow night. I'm about to post what we have so far. You can post your entry in several parts if you want, just be sure you are on time. All are welcome. Have a go. I'm adding this post to the opening post.

An eyoodgely expanded field this year. 96 players instead of the usual 72. The scale of the thing now. Entrants shown below and see the wiki page for how the 3rd column was built.

Pro Tour qualifiers v International qualifiers in Round 1. Winners play the seeds in Round 2. Both rounds will be played alongside each other, starting this Thursday night and ending Friday 21st December.

The 32 who survive this glorious chaos then play down to the final on New Year's Day. A barely believable half mill to the winner.

Draw bracket and schedule. Click or drag to expand.

MvG, Barney, Lewis, Whitlock, Wade, Gurney and Anderson all in the top half. Horrendous. MvG-Ando would be a semi-final if they both keep winning. I don't see MvG getting that far, personally. He's stressed and they love it. Added to which his draw is awful. Forget anything you know about the lazy bastards Lewis and Barney - at the Worlds they can be absolutely anything.

The only previous PDC World Finalists in the bottom half are Cross and Wright. You wouldn't trust either to boil an egg at the moment. I'd be v.surprised if either makes the final. Reckons we're looking at a first-time finalist from this half. Smith, Price, Suljovic? Clayton? De Zwaan and Dimitri are both down there too. Pick one. Exciting possibilities.

Wouldn't be the biggest shock in the world if Cross was knocked out on the opening night, would grab a nice chunk of media coverage

Meanwhile here's Jeffrey impersonating other players throwing actions

Ooh Holden. I'll get back to that, just piling stuff up for now.

This is the 26 edition of the PDC Worlds. That Phil Taylor had a mildly good time for a while there.
Different game now and evolving all the time as the PDC expands far and wide. And deep.
Seven different winners in 12 years.

Lord Robert has it. Pheel spectacularly cunted to oblivion on his final day at the office, the mad old cow. That really was something.

1994 Dennis Priestley 6-1 Phil Taylor
1995 Phil Taylor 6-2 Rod Harrington
1996 Phil Taylor 6-4 Dennis Priestley
1997 Phil Taylor 6-3 Dennis Priestley
1998 Phil Taylor 6-0 Dennis Priestley
1999 Phil Taylor 6-2 Peter Manley
2000 Phil Taylor 7-3 Dennis Priestley
2001 Phil Taylor 7-0 John Part
2002 Phil Taylor 7-0 Peter Manley
2003 John Part 7-6 Phil Taylor
2004 Phil Taylor 7-6 Kevin Painter
2005 Phil Taylor 7-4 Mark Dudbridge
2006 Phil Taylor 7-0 Peter Manley
2007 Raymond van Barneveld 7-6 Phil Taylor
2008 John Part 7-2 Kirk Shepherd
2009 Phil Taylor 7-1 Raymond van Barneveld
2010 Phil Taylor 7-3 Simon Whitlock
2011 Adrian Lewis 7-5 Gary Anderson
2012 Adrian Lewis 7-3 Andy Hamilton
2013 Phil Taylor 7-4 Michael van Gerwen

That's a point. Putting the BDO to one side and let's DO that, the last World Championship not to feature Taylor was in 1989. Good grief.

MvG has come right back into the pack this year. I'll be posting all current TV title holders in a minute and his name won't appear often.

Will you be going this year?

Something getting much attention this year is the wimmin. Lisa Ashton has been given prime billing on opening night and AnaDob on the Monday night. Ashton was interviewed on SSN when she qualified and they had Ana at the draw day with Cross. All over it.

All PDC tours are open to all, so having lady specific qualifiers does sit rather queer. What's up? Should be some spectacle anyway. There is no depth whatsoever in women's darts. It is absolutely horrifying but the best three of four can be decent for sure and these are probably the best two. Hopefully they don't throw utter shit. If they can push towards a 90 average then there could be fun.

From the previous darts thread, I've had an each way bet on Price and Dimi. As open a worlds as I can remember, you could make a case for 7 or 8 to win it.

In other news, my Dimi shirt arrived today, unfortunately I hadn't realised the implication of someone of my vintage walking around with 'Dream Maker' plastered all over the back.

Just surrendering to the inevitable and making this thread all about Dimitri...

Here was an interview with Chuck Puleo, his American opponent in Round 1. Seems an interesting character. Hopefully it'll be more a case of Chuck Shite on Tuesday night for him, huge lol:

You are right. Ten years since the reigning champ lost on opening night. John Part to the American Bill Davis, 0-3 I think.

12 seeds lost in the Last 64 last year, including Lewis, Wade and Chisnall. Also Bunting, Cullen, Klaasen and The Pear. Can be a very nasty experience. Cross will be terrified, I know he will. While assuming de Zwaan beats the Indian fellow, he'll be feeling great.

And speaking of media, Talksport will apparently be doing live commentary of all the matches from December 22nd, which is the start of the Last 32.
