World cup fever doesn't seem to have struck the nation. Even on here people are barely posting outside the England games. The format is flawed, as I said in advance ... and now essentially SA have to play 6 meaningless fixtures. It's not a cup, it's a league, but without the relegation element to keep the poor teams invested.

As I previously said, I’m amazed the format was not changed, the whole thing is far too long. They should of made a bigger knockout element.

Virtually every game sold out. Format is fine, every team plays one another, so no question of easy groups or draws. So what if it takes a few weeks, we moan that everything is bish, bash and over in no time. There’s a game a day to watch and momentum will build as the group stage finishes and teams are playing for the top 4.

World cup to me implies 'world' (a competition that is inclusive and grows the reach of the sport) and 'cup' (a knockout tournament).

If you just want the elite teams playing each other in a format guaranteed to favour the top sides then maybe something like 'Champions Trophy' would be a more appropriate name?

We could have both and alternate them every two years. :-k

I fear this tournament may overshadow the England Women's ODI series with the West Indies . 1-0 up yesterday with a record 208 run win.

Fucking hell, 208 would have been regarded as a big score in the 1979 men’s World Cup.

Great finish to the innings by England. So much better when your 7 and 8 can get the ball off the square.
