Ex player Kitson is warning of an mental heath 'epidemic' in football.

He doesn't say in the article why he believes this, but his opinion suggests that there is something in football that needs addressing, although he has experienced mental health issues since he was thirteen. So football didn't start things off for him, but maybe it made it worse.

Need to know where he's coming from so necessay action can be taken if needed. Surprised the interviewer didn't ask the question.
