There were milliseconds between Friend supposedly blowing the whistle and Villa putting the ball in the net. Surely commonsense should have relented and the goal allowed to stand. Friend had a shocking match and the cunts in the refs association unsurprisingly backed him up. What I want to know is why didn't Friend go to VAR? Hoping that things even themselves out and we get a favour back at a later match.

To disallow the goal was a travesty, there was no prior infringement. There was no VAR intervention because Friend gave a free kick against Villa. Moreover, I don't think Friend blew the whistle until after the ball went in the net if at all. Complete balls up.

I have no idea on what grounds Friend was backed up, Grealish did not commit a foul, nor did he feign one.

To settle an argument.
Who appoints referees to the Premier League?
Who pays them, the PL or the FA.
What control over the PL referees does the FA have

The PGMOL are responible for the refs and the refs are employed by them. It is funded by the FA and Premier League and the EFL. The PGMOL appoint refs to all games including VAR. All refs at this level ar salaried, they get around £45k per year, plus a match fee od around £1500 plus expenses. Not sure if it's changed but home clubs used to pay expenses.

The FA are really only involved in the laws of the game and disciplinary matters.

Another one where Villa got fucked over by VAR and twice. Hourihane penalised when he won the ball and a free kick given to Brighton which they went on to score from. Then having Hourihane’s goal scrubbed out when Mat Ryan fell clumsily yet Wesley was deemed to have pushed into him. Incredibly harsh. Thankfully, we eventually won 2-1 with a very late winner from Targett but we have been robbed of a few points this season through the poor use of VAR.

VAR a shambles again yesterday. The match official should be involved in all VAR decisions. He should not wait for a decision made by those behind the screen, he should check it out himself. Shocking decision of no pen given at White Hart Lane when Deulofeu was taken out

Fucking VAR again. Looked like a foul on Origi but if it wasn’t given surely he should have been booked for simulation.

Bonkers. Ball was going out for a goal kick, defending team sub just put his foot out to stop it, but made contact with the ball when it was still in play. Could understand it if he had stopped it going into goal. Josworth behind the screen wanted his couple of minutes of fame. Should just have allowed goal kick, or dropped the ball, but the letter of the law was the victor over commonsense.

Why was the handball against Alli not given? Surely it was in an unnatural position being well above his head?

Haven't seen the game yet, but FIFA have fucked up big time with law changes, and it's all too complicated. Football was originally meant to be a simple game, and look at it now. Handball is a prime example. What's all this shit about goals will be disallowed if the scorer accidentally handles the ball, but if a defender prevents a goal by accidentally handling it's not a pen. Talking about unnatural positioning of arms and silhouettes is utter bollocks.

Get back to, if in the opinion of the referee a player deliberately handles the ball a direct free kick will be awarded to the opposition, end of.

In our recent game against Partick Thistle, the linesman flagged one of our players offside.
However, people were baffled when the referee allowed Partick to take the free kick about ten yards inside our half.

Obviously he was offside in the opposition half, but he only became active when he ran in to our half to get the ball.

The rule, it turns out, says "If an offside offence occurs, the referee awards an indirect free kick where the offence occurred, including if it is in the player’s own half of the field of play."

That's the first time I've seen a team take a free kick for offside in the opposition's half. You live and learn.

A player has to be in the oppositions half when the ball is played to be given offside.

Indeed, my friend; perhaps I worded that badly.

He was in an offside position when the ball was played, and if he hadn't moved to collect the ball then he wouldn't have been flagged.
However, he ran back in to our half to get the ball, was then deemed active thus given the opposition an indirect free kick for offside in our half.
