Today's news - possible restart of the football season

Post by kancutlawns »

What the actual fuck? I know the fuckers in TS are in the pockets of the grubby TV companies and Premier League but what a joke this story is on account of some politician saying talks have started about starting on June 8th.

A few points:

1. There is a lockdown which is predicted to be in place for the rest of the year
2. There is no vaccine for COVID-19
3. Players would need to be tested at astronomical cost when even key workers aren't being tested
4. No other league has yet restarted although German and Italy may be trialled
5. Fans won't buy into this as it will be behind closed doors
6. What about foreign players who can't travel here because of travel bans from their countries?

I'm sure there's far more obstructions. How the hell can the football start in June or July?

The wankers Goff and greenteeth are leading on this. Shambolic.

Fuck the premier league, sky TV and all those premier league players.

Let’s finish the league behind closed doors. Cunts.

And clubs like Colchester are the ones (they’ll be a lot more) who are making big changes now

I hope the season is cancelled and I hope TalkSport goes bankrupt.

Just cancel it. Whether it means dishing out trophies or not I couldn’t give a fuck, people are dying out there.

Nothing against the players but Sky and the PL have just shown what greedy fucking hogs they are.

The top players have shown themselves to be even bigger spoilt brats than I thought they were. If you compare what big clubs in Spain and Italy have done to compared to the UK it's utterly disgraceful.

Hope the bastards lose sponsorship money too. Greedy tossers.

Please provide examples of their greed.

Will it include any of the following terrible examples of bratty behaviour:

Alexander-Arnold helping provide equipment to staff at Liverpool hospitals.

Rashford raising 100k to help feed vulnerable children.

Captains of all 20 PL clubs arranging a fund to distribute resource to NHS, spearheaded by Henderson, Maguire, Noble and Deeney.

De Gea making a £300k anonymous donation to the city of Madrid (only exposed after the local leader named him).

Kasper Schmeichel donating 20k to help vulnerable elderly people in the East Midlands.

Robertson making numerous substantial donations to six Glasgow food banks.

Gundogan arranging food deliveries for key healthcare staff in back in Germany.

Zaha offering the use of numerous properties to NHS workers.

Alexander-Arnold helping provide equipment to staff at Liverpool hospitals.

Rashford raising 100k to help feed vulnerable children.
Half a weeks wages (probably a lot less when including sponsorship money) for a man who's not working.

Captains of all 20 PL clubs arranging a fund to distribute resource to NHS, spearheaded by Henderson, Maguire, Noble and Deeney.

De Gea making a £300k anonymous donation to the city of Madrid (only exposed after the local leader named him).
Fair play, around a weeks wage.

Kasper Schmeichel donating 20k to help vulnerable elderly people in the East Midlands.
Less than a days wages, whilst sitting at home scratching his bolllox.

Robertson making numerous substantial donations to six Glasgow food banks.

Gundogan arranging food deliveries for key healthcare staff in back in Germany.

Zaha offering the use of numerous properties to NHS workers.
Wow - seen as we're not supposed to move from our main residence that's not exactly overly generous. They're empty after all.
Lionel Messi and Barcelona's players confirmed that they would take a 70 per cent pay cut in a move of solidarity with their colleagues at the club, while the likes of Sergio Ramos and Gerard Pique have been to the fore in charity efforts.

Likewise, Cristiano Ronaldo and Co. at Juventus came to an agreement that will save the Italian club €90 million (£81m/$101m), while German giants Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen are going to share their wealth with other clubs in an effort to prevent job losses.

Meanwhile;

'Arsenal have rejected the terms of a 12.5 per cent pay cut over 12 months in response to the coronavirus crisis'

And

"English Premier League players rejected a move on Saturday by clubs to cut their wages by 30 per cent during the coronavirus pandemic, escalating a bitter public row"

Players from all 20 Premier League clubs have again been holding pay cut talks
Liverpool's Jordan Henderson was at the forefront of discussions this week
Star are not willing to accept wages being slashed, but are open to deferrals .

So, as I was saying, the players are greedy cunts.

Rashford fund has raised more: https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/foo ... 75846.html

Not sure what Trent's 2000 products are donated to the NHS: https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/f ... e-18134388 Nothing clinical which should be Government funded.

Soccerers stting on their arses are an easy target, some do some good, some not. Like all, not a homogeneous group. A no win.

A pay cut means less tax and clubs win coin unless they donate and state where the saved money is going. A deferral, just shifting down the line.

But generally with Mr Tea, football hasn't played a blinder here, Clive.

Not a lot of TS talk so back over to sport.

So essentially, whatever any of them do, it will never be enough for you. You should have just said that in the first place.

If you’re unhappy with the terms of their contracts ( ) then that is to be held against the clubs not the players. As demonstrated, many of them are investing that capital into their own chosen causes, rather than letting it accrue interest in the club’s accounts.

Or, your anger would be far better directed to the real greedy cunts in the game. The ones at the top of the Premier League and Sky who are so desperate to get the money machine back in businesses they’re willing to restart with games behind closed doors, despite the fact that it still takes hundreds of people to put on a top flight game. Or, the owners who are willing to gamble their club’s entire future to get to the Premier League promised land and get their nose in the trough. It is their greed which has turned the sport into such a grubby industry, not Gaz McCuntface the West Ham fullback’s agent wanting an extra few grand per week for his client.

Players are just a cheap and easy target. Clubs choose to pay them the ridiculous amounts they get and whether they wish to donate their own money then it’s up to them.

I'm the last person to defend top flight footballers but donating, say, 100k, even if it is 'only' a week's wages, is still a substantial sum, and no one asked them to do it. The argument that 'they earn that in a few days 'sitting around scratching their bollocks'' is lazy criticism and smacks of jealousy, quite frankly. As has been said hundreds of times, footballers have short careers, and the vast majority post-career aren't raking in the millions, so for some of them to be giving away six figure sums is pretty good, to be honest.

Wrong. I've clearly said it's the players in this country, I think what the player's in Spain and Italy have done is admirable. They weren't asked either, it was all done voluntarily.

At Arsenal for instance the management all agreed to a 30% pay cut weeks ago,yet the players still can't agree on 13.5%.

If you’re unhappy with the terms of their contracts ( ) then that is to be held against the clubs not the players. As demonstrated, many of them are investing that capital into their own chosen causes, rather than letting it accrue interest in the club’s accounts.

TV rights make up to 88% of premier league clubs income, so although I agree they shouldn't be forcing a premature return, I can see the eagerness to get some revenue back from advertisers.

Sky, BT etc pay an astronomical amount for their rights packages, this should be able to keep clubs financially stable for years, even during a pandemic, but football is ruined by high salaries. Clubs are paying players on average 60% of their turnover, with Crystal Palace paying just under 80% two years ago. No other business that I know of pays such a high percentage of income on salaries, so yes it IS the responsibility of players to take a cut, ESPECIALLY at the four clubs that have furloughed their staff. None of the players at these clubs have agreed to help those staff, which is disgraceful.

You mention Gaz McCuntface the agent wanting a few extra grand per week not being a problem, you do realise agents ARE one of the driving forces behind sky high wages that have ruined football? So yeah - I do include them in being part of the problem.

It is important to finish the current season. The European cups are still in their last 16s. They cannot abandon that.
FA Cup last four, and Sadact's Salford in the EFL Trophy final v Portsmouth at Wembley.

The question is if it is worth starting the 2020-21 season, considering the Euros ( including final playoffs ) are yet to be played.
And also World Cup 2022 qualifiers were scheduled from September this year. The South Americans and island nations have already
had to postpone games for that. I say abandon the leagues and play cups only.

"Players have a short career" is absolute bollocks - how many players careers have been cut short in the last decade without them earning a shit load of cash? One 4 year deal should set anyone with more than two brain cells up for life.

The average weekly salary of a Premium League player last year was £60k+, whilst the normal average weekly salary was £538, if we say players retire at 35 and the average Joe at 70, just double the £538 for a fair comparison.

Just because you retire in your thirties doesn't mean you're career stops dead, either. It's a stupid statement that holds no weight.
