Champions League/Europa League 2020/21

Post by kancutlawns »

Celtic out of the Champions League after losing 2-1 at home to Farencvaros. Can concentrate on a clean sweep and a tenth straight league title.

Can they hold on to Édouard?

Celtic out 2nd prelim round 1-2 at home to Ferencvaros of Hungary managed by Sergei Rebrov.
No doubt lack of the famous Celtic support will be cited for this debacle

Lenny is a bit of a fraud but gets away with it by managing Celtic.

He’s a twat thinking that pricing Edouard at £40m will keep him at the club. Not sure he’ll really get that but as with McGinn, the misplaced sense of arrogance at the club led to them missing out. Hopefully it’ll happen with their striker too.

He played for Arsenal many years back, del. Thigh injury I think. Tonight’s result could be a game changer, little point in him staying without CL football and Celtic may be forced into selling him for a lesser price, going to be desperate for money with no gate income.

It isn't really. We had our best few years of late and will have five teams in Europe next year.

Lenny is a bit of fraud. He has a success rate of about 20% with signings. So many duds signed and punted off somewhere the year after. They've just signed Turnbull who looked a magnificent player but was sadly injured last year, so it may well be a risk signing him after such a long injury. Even if Motherwell have started the season hopelessly he looks to be their stand out player.

Europa League is Celtic's level, if that. They should not have lost last night, then again no complaints, you can't win a game with stats or having 14 shots to their 5, it's about scoring so good luck to the Green Eagles - and they are quite a difficult team with a good away record in Europe, and starting a team without a striker is chronic, albeit, Ajeti didn't look fit when he came on, but still created more of a presence up top than anyone did.

Now just watch Aberdeen & Motherwell go crashing out tonight to the Faroese and Bas'Glentoran.

Motherwell's 5-1 win over Glentoran flatters them a lot. It was fairly even up to half-time and then Glens had a man sent off before Motherwell took over. A good result for them after a pretty poor start to the season. They've also just lost their best player to Celtic too. They will be seeded for round two and if UEFA do their corridor/regional draw system again then you'd imagine both them and Aberdeen will draw someone from Faroes, Iceland, Ireland, Wales, NI, or Estonia, and Scandinavia.

Aberdeen looked very good last night (albeit against a Faroese side) still, I think McInnes will be delighted with Aberdeen's form since their return after their Covid 10 day break, 3 wins out of 3.

Seen the last 20 mins of normal time plus ET of Maribor - Coleraine and what a massive result. These one-legged ties are brilliant and pulling up a few shock results, if that game ended 1-1, then you would have fancied Maribor to go to NI and win 2-0 or so ; but nope, a dogged and backs-to-wall keeping Maribor at bay before winning it 5-4 on penalities.

Bala Town also had a magnificent 1-0 away in Malta whilst T.N.S knocked a Slovakia side 3-1 A.E.T. B36 of Torshavn beat Tallinn 4-3 A.E.T too, so there's a few few scelps.

So the teams from these islands that will be in Monday's draw for the second round are :

Tottenham

Rangers
Aberdeen
Motherwell
Celtic - come in at Round 3

Connah's Quay
T.N.S
Bala Town

Linfield
Coleraine

Shamrock Rovers
Dundalk

With the one-legged affairs, hopefully see a few more scelps of bigger sides. Maybe even Spurs put out a weakened/young team and go out on penalities to Bala or Coleraine's run continues? Roll on three weeks on Thurdsay when the Europa League returns
