An 80th birthday tribute

Post by VeritasVincit »

This is really one for Robert. I hope he'll read it, or failing that, the spy in the camp will relay it to him.

We should let Bobbles back for a day to wish the big man the happiest of birthdays.

England and Manchester United legend Sir Bobby Charlton has paid tribute to Pele on his 80th birthday.

The duo’s career intertwined as they were both involved in four World Cups, from 1958 to 1970, with Pele winning three and Charlton one, in 1966.

They have met frequently down the years, fostering a mutual appreciation still evident to this day.

“I have said it before and I will say it again, I sometimes feel as though football was invented for this magical player,” said Charlton.

“A phenomenal footballer and one of the nicest people you could ever wish to meet, Happy 80th Birthday Pele – wishing you good health, happiness and many happy returns.”

I think heenan has published his tribute.
"On this day 80 years ago... The biggest fraud and lowlife charlatan, football has ever seen, was born.
He's not going to get away with it if I've got something to do with it."

I think Heenan would appreciate this quote from ex-Villa striker Gary Shaw during an interview in 2018 to the Daily Mail.

Shaw was reminiscing about Villa's title winning season in 1981. On the final day of the season Villa went to Highbury needing a point to secure the title, Shaw quoted - 'Then when we're doing our warm up Pele is there jogging in between us waving to the fans. "F*** off Pele we're trying to concentrate on the game here!" I don't know what he was doing there. Nightmare".
