GoPro cameras

Post by theleader82 »

I've been thinking about getting one for hiking/skiing holidays. Is it worth gettijg s GoPro or are there equivalent cameras just as good but cheaper? I wondered how long the batteries tend to be and how simple it is to edit videos.

For "hiking/skiing holidays" you actually mean home made porn, don't you?

Well keep us apprised of whatever grumble site you post them on then.

Waste of money. Just sellotape your mobile to your helmet to record these 'holidays'.

I bought a SJCAM SJ4000 for around a third of the price of the equivalent GoPro - I got it initially for scuba & snorkling and it gave excellent results.
In between holidays, I use it as a dashcam.
As I don't have a Go Pro, it's hard to comment as to how this compares, but it seems fine to me.

I also bought a couple of spare batteries and a separate charger, but in use, I found that a fully charged battery would easily last an hour or so underwater, so spares aren't essential.

Thanks for your sensible reply. Go pros do seem quite pricey considering there are other good alternatives according to Amazon. That’s a good idea using as dash cam . What keeps it in place and does that reduce insurance?

Genuine question , do you use it snorkling and scuba diving for some sort of safety reason or just to have a nice record of the dive?

Why do you want one?

The SJCam came with a box of various fittings (including the obvious waterproof outer case) to enable you to fix it to just about any conceivable surface including dashboards & walking gear (it came with a glut of extras in fact, and I must admit, I don't know what many of them would be used to connect to).
In the case of the dash fitting, - it also provides a dash bracket with an adhesive backing (and a few spare backings as well).
I've no idea how the image quality compares with a GoPro equivalent, but it seems good enough for my needs.
As to insurance, I hadn't given it any thought - I may do now though, thanks.

Edit: I forgot to mention that it actually has a dashcam mode, to continually loop around an hour's worth of driving (depending on the micro SD card you have).

The latter, - it's great to have several hours of underwater footage to bore friends with instead of the usual slideshow

It would be fun to have a YouTube channel. People could watch me gaming or playing a few tunes on my guitar.
