laptop boot

I've got this laptop with windows 8 on which I fucking hate and never use.
So I got a windows 7 pro disc on ebay the burb tells me that before using the disc the laptop has to be set to boot from the external disc .How do I do this ? I fucked about restarting and pressinf5 but have got nowhere help please!
I heard gods fast but I'd have to go up against him before I believe it

Turn it on and start spamming either f10 or f1 to get into the bios on compaqs.

Then navigate to boot options and move the dvd drive to the top

Thanks for that mate. i got into the bios but nothing has happened when I put the disc in.

Have you gone into the part of the menu listed as something like "boot menu" or "boot order", you should see a list with "HDD (insert make here)" at the top, then underneath "dvd (insert make here)". Normally, you have to navigate down to highlight dvd drive with the arrow keys, and use one of the f keys (instructions should be at the top of the screen or bottom) to move it up the boot order.

Then make sure you save and exit, generally done by pressing f10. Again this may differ depending on the make, but the instructions should be on the screen somewhere.
