Van Gogh's ear

Post by Bad Blue 2000 »

A great doc.
Did he cut his entire ear off, just the lobe, does it matter?

Van Gogh was in a bar when Rembrandt walked in.
Rembrandt: “Hi, Vincent, can I get you a drink?”
Vincent: “No thanks, I’ve got one ‘ere.”

An oldie but goldie.

2 things I never either realised or paid attention to, until I asked Gary Google for help.

Van Gogh shot himself and died as a result of infection from his wounds.
He was only 37 when he died.

And according to Jeanne Calment, who died in 1997 was the world's oldest recorded person at 122, and who used to sell him his paints, he was very rude and smelled rancid. Imagine being accused of rudeness and reeking by the French?! He must have stunk like Pishtank's gusset.

Also how co-incidentally freaky is it that the world's oldest human knew one of it's greatest artists?

As few would want to go near him, is that the reason he only ever sold one painting.

Lol, great joke. :)

I saw the exhibition 'Van Gogh and Japan' in Tokyo and the beautiful film 'Vincent' at the ICA in London (now available on DVD). Van Gogh was a talented man; ahead of his time... Just as important as Turner, and Picasso imo. His ideas influenced Western painting - later similarities include Clive Bell, and Rothko.

'Lust For Life' starring Kirk Douglas is brilliant. :) :

The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam is an excellent venue if you are at all interested in the artist. There are many hundred works and it’s possible to follow his work chronologically and see the development of his painting. While doing this it is easy to pick out the period when he was ‘going mad’.
One word of warning. It gets crowded and the entrance queues are huge, so book in advance for a timed slot. It’s worth it.
