Folk/Americana/Celtic/English/music get in here...

Post by kevin04 »

Here's Runrig, they are a a bit too teuchter-rock at times (even for my quarter Pict/Gael/Catholic/Proddy erse), but some of their early stuff was absolutely fantastic to begin with.

They were big with a large number of people in Scotland, but outwith the nation they seemed to be only make it in Denmark, central Europe, and Germany.

They did a lot for a language that I am very proud of, and my silly old seannair/grandfather from Uist didn't think he should teach to my weegie Dad because he was 'air an tir-mor'/on the mainland (refers only to Scotland that in Gaelic (an tir mor/the mainland) I'd have thought that meant Britain but it doesnt/another reason I love it maybe ;) but if you e.g moved from Jura to Liverpool ; you would have moved to Breatain ; PS Irish Gaelic Breatainn bheag is Wales aka wee UK, :D but in Scottish Gaelic it is Cumrigh/(basically how you would say Cymru in Gaelic) - cum-ree.

Blethers galore (a Gaelic word - gu leor/enough/galore) but this song, there's nothing evil/sinister/tax payers money wasted on it ; it's just about being on the beach, being young, free, happy, and with a lassie, a few drinks at a party, and singing about what you see around you) e.g A-maireach agus eireach tragh (tomorrow I'll wake up early)

Anyhoos, they had a farewell gig a few months ago, and I don't think they ever were received well in England ; but AHEM what I meant before roaning on and I could delete all this, but I've come too far now so I'll suffer the consequences ; get your folk band suggestions in here.

Lovely, Easty and I belt it more than often. Christy Moore is a king.

This is a a great wee song, and so true. Good auld Billy (I couldnae see where the threat was coming from) me too being a bit of both o' the religions named Kevin and every thing. I went to Belfast, they all looked the same and same humor, so much in common. I like both Northern Ireland and the Republic (football).

Still like a bit of Woody:

Kevin, have you heard Chumbawamba's 'English Rebel Songs 1381–1984'? A great album. Songs are here:

Ah, I might reprise my Pizzica thread. 8) Heavily stylized but bewtiful, Mike:

The first song is one I remember my mother (trying) to sing to me and my wee sister way back then when we were weans.
The last song is the first song I actually ever learnt - like every other kid in Belfast back then - I made sure it was the first song my daughter ever learnt too. It also has the "My Aunt Jane" lyrics.

Its getting perilously close to that abomnible time of the year, but you should all know me by now, not a great stickler or believer of religious things, but still willing to sacrifice the odd virgin or two to the Green Man to guarantee the next spring. I put it down to a millennium or nine of insular genetics...
