Legion of Skanks.

Post by Basualdo »

Anyone listen/watch this podcast?
Three comedians, Big Jay Oakerson, Dave Smith and Luis J Gomez, just riff of things.

Genuinely refreshing and honestly offensive but fucking hilarious.

What other show - apart from the Alan Brazil Breakfast Show - would dare open with the audience (including black members of the audience) chanting "white power"?

They only exist to piss every fucking body off. And at the minute it's the woke culture that's prissily delicate. Though thanks to Dave Chappelle and Bill Burr, it looks like some sort of fightback is starting.

Most of the fun is when Big Jay rips the piss out of Luis, which thankfully is about 90% of the show.

They've had guests walk out, whinge and complain, get extremely uncomfortable and on one occasion actually fight with them.

On a recent show they had a female podcaster guest complain to them, "I only agreed to come on if you promised to go the whole two hours without saying the N word. And you couldn't last ten minutes!"

Their reply was, "Come on! We would never promise anything like that!"

She was cool though, they plied her with bourbon and she was wankered by the end of the show and drunkenly singing, Shaun Colvin's 'Rockabye' over and over again.

I've never got round to listening to it, but I know of all three from other podcasts.

My favourite podcast is probably Misery Loves Company with a bog-standard 60 year old bitter comedian called Kevin Brennan. He basically rambles on with lots of unsavory language and calling out comedians, actors and people in general. There's an episode with Bill Burr which is brilliant. Burr comes in more of a favour (as MLC rarely gets big names) and Brennan just roasts him for about an hour about being a phony, Baastan shouting nonsense etc, Burr is dumb founded a bit ; although the latter episode from a few months back with Burr was much more easy-going.

He had a brilliant co-host (who he's now fallen out - an ex softcore porn director who's now half blind).

Seen him on Legion of Skanks not so long ago. Brennan looks like an unstable drunk. I have to check out his podcast now :D .
Funnily enough just a week or so ago there was an off the cuff reference to Brennan. One of them asks is there a comedian who can't possibly get back to stand up. One of the others replies, "Well Cosby obviously if he ever gets out. Oh and Kevin Brennan." and one of the others mumbles, "Yeah, probably."

I wonder what he's done now?
And this from guys who originally wanted to call their podcast, 'Two Kikes and a Spic.'

Yes, he is pretty unstable. They used to do a show at Compound (Cumia's Network) and then Brennan didn't like that the morning guy there - Bill Schulz - was getting more hours and more money as Kevin didn't think he deserved it. So they quit Compound but on good terms with most of the team there, Brian (blind co-host) went with him and they started doing pateron MLCs then Brian who has been pals with Schulz long before he even met Brennan went on solo as a guest on Bill Schulz's morning program, Brennan lost the rag with him and fired him from MLC.

Unstable is a great way to describe him. Wafer thin-skin too. His brother is Neal Brennan - who he seems to detest.

The co-host now ex co-host is hilarious for all the wrong reasons. Terrible puns, no self-awareness, basically mild autism and half-pissed most shows makes for fun/cringe but funny listening. He was always a nice guy though, even if a bit too out there - there is an episode where he is about 2/3 weeks sober after cutting back on the drink and he just erupts on a guest (who does come across as a CÚNT) Carie Karavas - who has always been a bit snidey and nasty to Brian. Just fantastic listening. :D

Seems a bit of a ramble this post, and hopefully it makes sense.

Listened to the most recent podcast this afternoon and it reminded me of catchphrase/ in joke type of comedy ala the Fast Show and Harry and Paul but without relatable humour.

Not for me, Beeky but thanks for the suggestion, Bas. You’re doing well to find that funny. It’s thought provoking, but as a comedy vehicle, it’s complete and utter bollocks, IMHO.

For a excellent comedy podcast, try Rule of Three. Very good, especially the episode where Charlie Brookes dissects Airplane the Movie.

I've gone the same way with you, Eddie.

At first I found LOS interesting with some funny moments, but then realised it was usually the guests who were the comedy and the episodes when its just the three of them are not good.

Luis J Gomez sounds like an absolute aggy prick. He's not funny in the slighest, a loudmouth gobshite who would probably be awful after a dram of the uisge beatha.

'Big' Jay Oakerson - a mid 40s man who dresses like a Emo fresher from 20 years ago. The man wears finger-less gloves! He's probably the funniest out of the three, TBH. But any sort of 'gimmick' is for the watching.

Dave Smith is quite interesting, and has his own political podcast which can be interesting in small doses. An intelligent man, but funny? Not really.

Not quite. Big Jay Oakerson's ex wife used it during an argument they had when she accused him of spending his time after gigs ,"fucking a legion of Skanks!"
He liked the phrase so much they named the podcast after it.

No doubt she probably heard it from the movie though.
