John Wayne, like James Stewart and Frank Sinatra, is one of those 'icons' that leave me completely cold - and baffled.

I watched The Searchers years ago, after hearing Scorsese's eulogising, and couldn't see what the fuss was about.

I'm genuinely curious as to what the appeal of Wayne is.

I know he's seen as a great American patriotic hero (despite having no military record) because of his outspoken views, but I don't get why he is rated as an actor.

Channel 5 are showing Christmas films every day at 11.15am and 3pm.

Venturing out only to get a Jimmy John's ham and cheese sub. Plus some crisps. Although yank crisps aren't much good. Still, it's nice they make the effort in the New World to imitate our lovely crisps.

I like Roger Moore's Bond the best. "I've lost my charm...", "I wouldn't say that my dear". Fucking superb festive movie fare is Mr. Bond. But Roger was the best. A vicious passive-aggressive cunt. When he beat-up women on-screen it nearly scuppered his pro-female charity roles. But with typical suave, vaguely sleazy aplomb, and a good dose of blue terry-cloth suits, he got away with it. I love his style. I've no time for Connery, he is a genuine piece of work. Dalton is underrated. That other bloke, the Irish one, was dreadful.

Interesting, carc. Nowt wrong with Magic Mushrooms. Far more chilled than acid, though liked acid a lot, though never had any 'Superman' desires on either.

I'll tell a similar lonesome Christmas tale. So, in Nottingham student house in Welby Avenue, Lenton. Right behind Lenton flats, now demolished:



Living there with Raj, a fellow acid lover who always wore his hood up and shades and liked his machete, Nicky the boy, a mature student posh boy and the delightfully flirtatious Michelle, a mixed race lass who often had older chaps come up from that London to visit her for weekends. Tried my luck once but batted me off. Good times, fun times, great times.

Anyway. All had gone away for Christmas. Was going to get the train back down south on Christmas Eve, but had a long night and fucked it off, so phoned mama and said I'll come down on the 27th, she was not impressed. Christmas alone beckoned.

But lo, a knock on the door, not unlike Joseph and Mary at the inn. Was Pete, a chap who lived in Lenton flats and had been to ours many times for a smoke and chill, not sure how we all met, think Raj met him in the local shop. A queer old cove, about 5ft tall, Asian bloke who carried a ghetto blaster on his shoulder playing Elvis and would dance around, an original Asian Elvis. Loved his porn and would often bring videos round and stay the night wanking away whilst we were asleep after smoking our herb.

Anyway. He was also alone at Christmas as well so arranged he he came round the next day, Christmas Day, went to the shop and ate some pre-packed shit. Later went to his flat about 12 floors up, had a drink and smoke and err watched some porn, first time watched porn in male company since about aged 15, no mutual masturbation though.

Went back home on the 27th for family shite. Was actually good fun and first time realised didn't need to be with family at Christmas, though mostly do.

But did God know and sent two people alone to be together on his sons birthday?

Indeed, Hiiggins. Forgot to add but as can be expected, Pete's flat was pretty bare bar sofa, TV and video. Nice, chap, poor chap, hope he is well now and not in an institution somewhere. Playing Elvis loudly on your ghetto blaster in public is not a sectionable offence. Lost contact with all, Raj, probably is somewhere inside, used to go to Film club together and watched all the greats. Last I heard, Nicky the boy was teaching in Brighton. Delightful Michelle, no idea, those looks must have faded so maybe on the MILF tip as she wasnt bothered about err working.
