TV shows I've never seen but should

Next week I'm off to see my partners parents for Christmas. The upside is they live in a beautiful place and I'll have unlimited access to peanut butter M&Ms.

The downside is it's a bit of a hike. I'm planning on downloading some bingable stuff from Netflix and Azm Prime.

Recommendations of hidden gems, please?

Depends what you're into but on Amazon Prime, I enjoy:


The Expanse - brilliant thoughtful sci-fi, described as Game of Thrones in space, which is unfair though I can sort of see where they're coming from. It's really good though if sci fi is your thing. Different storylines get nicely and believably woven together.
Three seasons so far and fourth due this week .


The Boys - I'm not into capeshit but really enjoyed this. If superheroes were showbiz and corrupt, who's going to stop them?

Bosch - First rate detective show from the Michael Connelly books and updated by 20 odd years. I know the books well and my mental image of LAPD detective Harry Bosch was nothing like the actor portraying him so was hugely wary of the show. But he's so damn good he's what I picture when I think of the character now. Great acting and stories.

Lodge 49 - Quirky little show that somehow combines alchemy, esoteric philosophy, semi secret societies and SoCal surf bums and makes it funny, easily accessible and unlike anything I've ever seen on TV. Funny and the type of show that creeps up on you.

Marvelous Mrs Maisel - I could bang on all day about this. I never thought I'd like it but I must be a little gayer than I thought. . Great escapist fun. A young wealthy New York Jewish housewife wants to become a comedian in the late fifties. Amazing to look at - i think they spent most of their budget on period cars - fantastically acted. the gorgeous Rachel Brosnahan is good and delivers a sterling show, but Alex Borstein as her manager Susie easily walks away with every scene she's in. The first series was the best I've seen in ages. The second was...um..okay. The new and third series is much better, so far.

I haven't bothered much with Netflix recently but when I did I enjoyed:

The Alienist - A reasonably faithful adaptation of the Caleb Carr book from the nineties about a turn of the century fledging psychiatrist hunting down a serial killer murdering underage rent boys in 1890s New York.

F is for Family - Especially if your a Bill Burr fan. His animated series of a working class dysfunctional family in early 70s outside Pittsburgh. Genuinely hilarious. Think of a blue "Wait till your father gets home" if you're old enough to remember that old underrated show.

The Irishman - I don't need to explain this one. If you're into mobsters and/or Scorcese and have a day or two free.

Season 3 is also excellent and just as good as the 1st, the second series stinks

Amazingly enough her eyes are her best feature even though she has that astounding 10/10 body.
