I remember teaching a Year 10 class in Huddersfield about 15 years ago, and observing a lad flanked by two lasses at the back of the class holding one of those drawstring bags which he'd pulled tight so that the opening of it somewhat resembled a vagina. Ta, might order it. Burroughs is beat generation, rich boy gone queer, fucked North African kids probably, likely, took drugs, shot his wife, wrote some interesting stuff, read 'Junkie' and' 'Queer'. 'Naked Lunch' is a very good read though.

Other main Beat types, Ginsberg, a fat gay bear, wrote shite poems, carc, can probably dissect him better than I can.

I do like old Kerouac and have read more of his. Working class guy, met the above two, relationships and blah. 'Others may slag 'On the Road', but it is still a great book on the great US hope. You want a hard read, still going with this:


Not read any Derrida or Barthes, but you want old French philiosopy, as per, one of my top 5 books. Diderot's 'Jacques The Fatalist'. Still a magnificent read:
