New ABBA album and London show

Post by Vespa »

I do love how low key these guys are. Release a new album after forty years, only two of them turn up the live stream and then 'live' shows are going to be digital animations of themselves.

Living the shrimp sandwich dream they are.

ABBA are overrated. The Winner Takes It All isn't bad, though. Dancing Queen at weddings.

It’s a load of fucking shite. I did actually think ABBA were a cheesy kind of cool until about 1990, before many others did but their music has been pumped out mindlessly since to the extent I only now like their lesser played stuff Eagle, The Day Before You Came and Summer Night City.

Overexposed and grossly overplayed pap.

Brilliant songwriters but sometimes it’s best not to relive the past. ABBA gold is one of the biggest selling records of all time. I have a dream is my favourite.

Whilst good songwriters, they’re obviously not as good or as influential as Right Said Fred.

Bit harsh, Lawns-o.
Not their fault that their stuff is overplayed.
I think their lyrics are a little twee at times, but in terms of songwriting and structure etc, they are fantastic. Perfect pop songs.

That’s been the problem sub, how much everything’s played. But you are right. Have to say, the constant overplaying of their tunes over the decades has removed the sheen of a lot of their hits like Knowing Me Knowing You, Super Trouper and Winner Takes It All which remind me of when I was growing up. Some of their stuff has rather sad undertones like Happy New Year, but again it’s the less played stuff I tend to like. The dynamic of the two ex-couples is rather endearing.

Confession time....

Abba's the album was the first proper album I ever owned, got it as a birthday present about 77/78. I still have the sleeve, but the record itself has gone missing.

It does look out of place in my record collection in between all my heavy metal classic vinyl!
