Goldstain, who seemed to be regarded as usually above much subbing, is now all over the place while Ecky Thump stands in for HIM.

Mount Rushmore, another former do anything/anytime stand-in, is also being used a bit more sparingly.

Hopefully Clayton really is setting up a major shake up, but, knowing the shocking mistakes he's made so far, it'll probably result in something even worse.

Budget cuts. It's a lot cheaper to move Goldstein to Drive and get Catterall to cover the Sports Bar than to get Kelly to cover Drive.

That's a somewhat dubious generalisation about the general process.

Cheaper still would be to get Catterall to cover Drive. Or use one of the several generic hosts over in the TS2 wasteland. But Clayton obviously rates Goldstein higher. Why ?

Yes, and even cheaper still would be for Clayton to throw on someone who is young, black, gay and depressed or whatever else fits his asinine demographic and let them babble on like he does Craig Mitch (and if that seems far too irresponsible and unprofessional a strategy for even Clayton to consider, look at, er, Craig Mitch), so the cost-cutting theory doesn't really in itself explain these moves.

It could be that Clayton is seeking to cut a few of the 'personalities' down to size, specifically the ones who pre-date him on the station and therefore are most likely to challenge his authority. None of his newbies seem to get asked to do stand-in shifts. H&J are suddenly kicked out to do OBs in strange places, much to their discomfort by the sound of it; Saggers seems only to emerge from the cupboard under the stairs to do the odd weekend waffle; Jim White has had Sawyer imposed on his ego; Kelly is either 'wanting to spend more time with his family' or, surely more probable, is being provoked into quitting, given how often he's now sniping at other hosts and the mess being made of his own old show; and Goldstain and Cundy are being split up far more often to fill-in on a growing range of shows.

Only Clayton's idol, Dum-Dum, seems to be above such manipulations. Boozil, Clayton's realised, is impossible to irritate, even when poked repeatedly by the blunt stick that is Laura Woods, so he seems to be leaving the poor bloke to leave through alcoholic self-abuse.
