I'm guessing if you asked him, "Do you prefer, A) Decent football chat with Danny Kelly at a respectable time with sensible debate or B) sharing a studio with a childlike weapon while taking calls from psychotic virgins post midnight, he'd go with the first option more often than not.

Cundy seems to have dropped his strange campaign against some clubs' fans - when he was in that mode, he was a deeply unpleasant character, even more offensive than Goldstain IMHO because there seemed real hatred there (and also rank hypocrisy of the Kelvin MacKenzie kind: he'd push and push until fans reacted and then he'd brand those fans as disturbed and violent).

Goldstain's not really interested in inciting that kind of reaction, (a) because he's a coward and (b) because he doesn't give a toss about football in any serious sense. He's just interested in promoting himself and his own deluded sense of being a comic genius.

Maybe after Cundy's stupid rant about women's voices in sport, when he was ridiculed on mainstream TV, he either had some advice, or actually realised himself how far Goldstain had pushed him into becoming that kind of boorish twit, and resolved to take a step back.

He's definitely changed for the better recently. He's desperate to get an earlier spot away from Goldstein so that could well be a factor.

It's quite telling that any former regular famous guests that Goldstein used to have on have all drifted away and obviously blocked his number. There's only so much of him you can take. Stephen Hendry, Noel Gallagher and the lusted after Peta Todd to name a few...
