Had problems with Chrome since the last update on 20th March. Seems to be OK now.

I don't trust Chrome. The worlds biggest spying agency and data miner decrypts everything you want kept private in it's own browser.

Firefox has a better claim to privacy IMO.

The SSL certificate expired and had to be renewed. It takes a bit of time for the new cert codes to cycle around the system and there are three (possibly more) things that may cause mixed experiences for people, especially those posting rather than just browsing.
  1. The SSL cert is updated but has to be verified and re-issued by the certifying authority
  2. Some regions receive the updated codes before others
  3. Some browsers handle the temporary conflicts more effectively than others
  4. If you have things like 'log in automatically' set on your browser that can cause a conflict if you were already logged in on the old SSL code and then come back after the new code has been implemented and try and continue using the previous log in

I find it decent as an alternative browser but it is an M$oft delivered application.

As written before, remove the 's' and just use the http://talkforum.co.uk/

All our woes will disappear.

On the hosting side the use of SSL is almost mandatory, it is very difficult to host a domain without SSL. They seem to assume that anybody hosting a site is going to ask vistors for money.
From a user side it does give you some relief if your browser decided to go and do some SSL checking. Several security updates in the past have tried to enforce SSL checking in browsers which then throws out warning messages if you use http: instead of https: for any site.

On balance, SSL keeps it neater on the hosting side but we do not enforce https: browsing so if you like you can browse via http:
