talkSPORT 2 is broadcasting live ball-by-ball coverage of The Open this year, starting next week. SEXY Richard Kaufman will present live coverage from Carnoustie starting on Tuesday July 17, bringing all the latest news, live commentary and interviews from the players at the 147th Open.

About 17 years back, Richard Kaufman had the mid afternoon slot. He insulted while interviewing Trevor Brooking. After Sir Trev slammed the phone down with the right hump, Kaufman went on to mock him by taking the piss out of his voice.

Brilliant radio.

Yay to Dickie Kaufman. Also, Ron Jones, blimey, a 5Live name from the past, did like him as a commentator.
Maybe she's born with it, maybe it's Maybelline.

I remember when Kaufman did drivetime for a bit, sponsored by Siemens Mobile :)

H&J had a really good clip of him interviewing the boxer Herbie Hide, who talked a bit street. Kaufman obviously got ideas and at the end of the call, signed off to Hyde with "big up to you Herbie brother, thanks man". Funny clip.

I remember Ron Jones on Five Live. He was one of their top commentators before completely disappearing without warning.

That must have been a good 16, 17 years ago.

Zippy - Sorry to be a pedant but Richard was actually talking to Howard Eastman. I know because I was a regular recorder of H+J shows in those days, so I've heard that clip a few times over the years.

Dicky was a regular on Clips of the Week, as he was a real mangler of words and loved a Spoonerism.

He did the 1-4pm slot from about late 2000 until he took over Drivetime when H+J moved to that early afternoon slot after the 2002 World Cup.

He was replaced by Bill Young in 2003, who lasted about three weeks!

Richard Kaufman is responsible for one of my all-time favourite TS moments.
Rangers were playing a Champions League qualifier against some t'Tom Noddy team from eastern Europe, and Kaufman was keeping track of the game during the show. He got more and more rattled as the game went on, which Rangers ended up losing.

He blurted out: "Oh, this is so disappointing, a game that Rangers really should have won. *exasperated* It's just another nail in the---- *pauses to think momentarily* some would say coffin of Scottish football"

Ron Jones disappeared from 5 Live as he moved to Irish radio, he retired at the end of last season from doing the weekly EPL commentary for some Irish station.

I still miss Peter Jones, the doyen of football commentary.

I didn't listen to any of it because it was golf but great to have Sexy Kaufman back for the weekend. Lets hope he pops up some more.
