Thought it might be useful to stick this here, so anyone can refer to it if the game they are watching has VAR involvement.

Apparently, the VAR officials will be wearing full referee's kit.

Absolutely nothing.
Both games today had mistakes.

Re: VAR
Well, I think its decided. VAR (ie, another ref watching a replay in a room, its not technology, you FUCKING FUCKWITS, that is the main annoyance of it for me) is pretty fucking shite.

Yep. Clattenburg on Griezeman penalty. He agreed Risdon touched the ball, but then claimed VAR was right as Risdon's foot following through slightly knocked Griezemen's foot knocking him off balance.
Technically maybe right, but fucking annoying shite.

Re: VAR
Yeah haven't actually seen it yet, but if Risdon caught Griezmann, thus stopping him getting to the ball, it's a pen whether he initially made contact with the ball or not.

Stonewaller penalty on VAR
Iffy decision on normal time
That surely is what VAR is all about -get the decision right

Could be on the way to Robo Ref, where the game is controlled by a machine sitting in front of a screen. When there is an infringement a loud whistle will be triggered through the loud speaker system.

Waiting to see VAR's first after match red card especially if somebody like Ronaldo Messi or more likely Neymar is in the frame.

= = =
If they MUST have VAR to decide whether a tackle was a foul or not then I say the final decision should be made watching it at normal speed. Everything looks terrible in slow motion.
It's like the cricket, though. It was brought in to avoid the obvious howler, but after a while you're talking about millimetres. At least in cricket they've now accepted that the technology just isn't that accurate.

Is that the rule?
I thought if you touch the ball first it is irrelevant what happens afterwards (unless you chin him etc)?

Yeah, a lot of confusion, mainly due to tv pundits not describing it correctly, but also because it needs clarifying in the laws.
A direct free kick is awarded when a player commits any of the following in a manner considered by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force:
Trips or attempts to trip an opponent.
Playing the ball before during or afterwards doesn't really come into it.
Risdon did appear to get a touch on the ball, but not enough to divert it from Griezmann's path, who looked likely to get it before he was tripped. I personally don't like VAR. It was supposed to remove the subjectivity from major incidents, but the argument goes on, was he tripped, or did he leave a trailing leg on purpose to make contact.
