Apologies. Today is the day I have to stop drinking alcohol.

Apologies. Today is the day I have to stop drinking alcohol.

Post by carcinogen »

Today is the day. I have to stop drinking. Apologies for my innapropriate post last night about 'Welsh Milf' Lesley. I've just read back what I typed and it's fucking out of order. I'm really sorry for all the bullshit I've posted when drunk. I have to stop.

I've cut-up my credit card and my debit card. I have no money to buy booze. I know it's radical, but it's the only way I can stop drinking. The next 72hrs are going to be difficult for me.

This isn't some sort of Horse-like mental breakdown scenario, I'm fine. But in some way actually typing this out is helpful for me. Even if it makes for uninteresting bullshite for you to read.

Anyway. I'm 42. Touch wood in good nick. This is the day for me to curb my addiction to alcohol. I'll always be an alcoholic, I just need to focus my addiction on something positive and productive.

This is a new dawn.

Yeah thanks man. Didn't you have a bit of a gambling issue? Someone on here did and I felt real sympathy. I thank god I never went down that route. Plus I've only been drinking beer for the past year. I kicked wine and vodka into touch. It's just the final hurdle to cross ... ditch the beer.

No mate, not gambling.

Grand national once a year & that's it.

I sympathise with the drink, though. I love a beer - work and family commitments mean I only drink in moderation. But I can see how it would easily get out of hand for anyone.

See my comment in that thread - get the mods to delete it or it will be nagging there at the back of your mind.

As you say, it is totally unfair on that poor woman.

Don't know what you posted about who Carc, but I wish you all the best in your endeavour to quit the booze, as you say, the next 3 days will be hell, but it isn't the next 3 days that matter, it's the day after that and the day after that one and the one after the one after that one.
It's finding something to do so that you don't have the time to think about opening a bottle, it will be difficult but don't be afraid to ask for support, there are organisations and people out there who can, and will, help.

All the best Carc. It’s a fine line between being a big drinker and realising that it’s got hold of you

One of my best mates is drinking far too much, cracking bloke but it’s turning him into a monster....only he can do something about it tho

Yup, you can't tell an alchie to change and expect them to listen, trust me, I've watched thousands of people completely ruin their lives despite everyone telling them to stop. It's got to come from within.

I never refuse them a drink though. Alchies are goldmines..

Are you actually an alcoholic, though? I thought I was, but 5 years ago I gave up for Lent and found it surprisingly easy. It turned out I just liked being pissed all the time :-)
I went 18 months without a drop, and foolishly thought that I could go back to "social" drinking ha ha, so I've now given up again.
Being sober isn't SUPPOSED to be as exciting as being pissed, by the way, and the days will really drag, and I never felt any better, physically, but there you go. Good luck.

It's true. You have to work, and I mean work, INCREDIBLY hard to get addicted to to alcohol.
