I think living beside the sea gives one a certain perspective on life; tides, waves, the ever-changing. Both insightful yet forboding. I feel an ill-wind on the horizon. The sea is secretly calm but beneath something is waiting to crash upon shore. I feel it in my bones. I can't explain. Hold tight, a storm is brewing.

I love hearing the waves breaking on Hastings beach. William of Normandy heard that.

Was great when living in Lowestoft and the sea a few minutes away. Good times, fun times, great times.carcinogen wrote: ↑Sun Aug 30, 2020 3:00 pm I think living beside the sea gives one a certain perspective on life; tides, waves, the ever-changing. I miss the sea, watching the weather come in.

It is a very therapeutic thing. Those who know, know. Those who don't, don't.

I did it, and can thoroughly recommend it. Out at Sandy Point yesterday on Hayling Island. Bootiful

Devon is top of our list, but anywhere that doesn't get heaving with crowds in summer will do.

Lowestoft. Sunny Suffolk, but without the London types who go to Southwold or Aldeburgh.subsub wrote: ↑Tue Sep 01, 2020 8:26 amSounds lovely.Zambo wrote: ↑Tue Sep 01, 2020 8:25 amI did it, and can thoroughly recommend it. Out at Sandy Point yesterday on Hayling Island. Bootiful

Re: A storm is brewing [prose]
Went to Devon last week sub. Stayed in Plymouth which is a shit city but on the err Hoe which was lovely for walks, did a boat ride too. Drove through Dartmoor up to Salcombe and Torquay. Excellent weather and ate some decent seafood on err Rishy. Drove down across the Jurassic Coast, stopping in Lulworth Cove and a couple of other places. Spent time in Bournemouth and Poole. A great break, highly recommended. Not huge crowds, probably because it was near the end of summer. Will try to go to the Isle of Wight next time but love the south coast.subsub wrote: ↑Tue Sep 01, 2020 8:26 amSounds lovely.Zambo wrote: ↑Tue Sep 01, 2020 8:25 amI did it, and can thoroughly recommend it. Re: A storm is brewing [prose]
Can't recommend the south coast highly enough, and you mention some of the great places along it.
My parents took me to Torbay a few times when I was a kid, Torquay, Brixham and Paignton, so much to do and see around that area. Went back there a couple of years ago and took some old photos, with the plan of taking photos in the same places, and it's amazing how so much hasn't changed. Also visited West Bay, Durdle Door, Lulworth and Weymouth on the way back.

We've stayed in Seaton a few times, which isn't as pretty as nearby Lyme Regis or Sidmouth, but we really like it – plenty of space, unlike Lyme which gets horribly crowded when the weather's good (the mother of all hills up to the car parks, too!)
Off to Somerset at end of Sept for a week, a house near the coast a few miles from Weston-Super-Mare
