Christmas

Post by kevin04 »

What are you doing for it? Do you enjoy it? Do you even celebrate it? Do you feel the stress of having to push the boat out ; or ignore all the adverts and do very little?

I see lots of family and friends over Christmas; try to attend at least one London carol concert beforehand. Love decorating the tree (which I only put up yesterday!) and wrapping presents, too. :) Christmas has been commercialised for a long time, but more so these days - Superdrug were playing Christmas songs in early November!

Do you send many Christmas cards? This year I sent twelve to immediate family members and close friends.

Personally I couldn't care less about it nowadays. If you can't enjoy yourself on the other 364 days of the year then something is wrong.
Double, treble or quadruple booked for people saying come over but you can't drink or anything. TV is utter tripe.

Will do the usual rounds for the young'uns whose faces light up but generally can't wait for it to be over.

Plus by about 12 I'm completely fucked off with being on the phone for about three hours solid or texting merry Christmas.

Boxing day is my favourite and is far more relaxed and under control plus it's also the furthest day away from next Christmas you can get.

For the first time in a long time, it's just me and Mrs subsub together on Christmas Day.
Smoked salmon and Champagne to start, then rib of beef, Yorkshires, roast spuds etc, then rhubarb and ginger trifle.
Nice and chilled day with lots of good food and booze :)

Then to family on Boxing Day (Mrs subsub driving 8) ).

Have never been fussed about NYE - normally see friends but think we may escape it this year and have a quiet one.
Seems such an anti-climax compared to Christmas.

Yeah, same. One year I spent NYE in Town and regretted it. Best at home with a bottle of Bolly.

NY to me used to be being pissed at 4am trying to get a taxi at three times the price.
Prefer to go and see the old man and have a few tots round there and if necessary sleep on the sofa or floor.
The whole season is an excuse to pretend it's the best couple of days of the year when in reality it's enforced merriment.

Don't mind Christmas so much, or new year.

Cannot stand the "look at how zany I am" people who wear shitty Xmas jumpers though. Fuck off.

But you make a lot of money at Christmas so I can live with an extra influx of dickheads.

At my folks for Christmas with my version of the big girl (TM ol' Pet). Will catch up with pals either Boxing Day or the 22nd ; meeting another couple we know on the 23rd most likely, and looking forward to just chilling out and watching TV/reading.

I'm off from the 19th - 28th which is fine, and I'm working the 29th to Hogmanay, off the 1st and then work the 2nd before off again for 4 days (the way the rota has worked out pretty well). Finish work about 8 or 9pm on the 31st then off to a party and off the 1st if I need to recover.

I enjoy buying gifts, although it gets harder and harder and ''here's a voucher for golf lessons/Amazon/travel money for your holiday etc'' is a bit boring, but when everyone has everything or so it feels like, it is harder to not just waste cash on shite that people never really needed. I'm toying with buying my girlfriend a tablet - we don't need it. She's got a work comp, and a 'home' one ; along with a five year old kindle ; and a smart phone etc - just as I cannot really think of anything and she usually gets me well thought out gifts.

Anyhoos, hope everyone has a good one, and likewise Mark, enjoy Boxing Day!

How are the licencing laws in England, Easto? I think out of the 9 pubs in our town, its usually 2 that are open on Christmas Day, and they are rammed usually as well. People needing out of the house :) I take it Christmas Eve is the same as in Haggisville - the pubs absolutely hoaching!

Christmas eve is always cool rammed in the day, pretty much everyone fucked off back home by 7 so the staff can have a chilled evening.

Christmas depends, city centre pub, no point in opening, local/village pub, I've always opened at 11-2.30 and yeah, tends to be a absolutely packed where ever you are.

Also the day where the phrase "its good to support your local" is uttered by people I've never seen before the most.

Christmas jumpers are for women, children and cunts

Saying that, I’ve GOT to wear one for the firms do today, it’ll be in a bin by the time I get to the pub
