Big bump to all chess fans. The 2018 World Chess Championship is in London in November: https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2017/ ... us-carlsen

First time in London since Short v Kasparov in 1993 when the FIDE/PCA split and as per live coverage on C4 with friend of H&J and a ringleader, Raymond Keene, good old GM Danny King and Vorders for glamour. Highlights on BBC2.

Anyway. The incumbent, not model Magnus Carlsen, champion since 2013, beat Sergey Karjakin in a drawn out thrilller, some say borefest, in New York in 2016 where as per I happily attended a game.

So Carlsen awaits in November in that London, the winner of the Candidtates Tournament in Berlin which starts tomorrow

Eight players in a double round robin tourney: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Candidate ... ament_2018 starting tomorrow. Karjakin as per last time and most have been around. Mamedyarov despite rating is new to this. On the opposite side, old Vlad Kramnik, the wild card is a sympathy vote.

Not going to say whom. but would not be surprised id Karjakin plays Carlsen again.

Live stuff official channels and sure others. Jerry on Chess Network, GM Danny King will analyse after and if live, as per posts from 2016, anything with Peter Svidler in worth a watch.

Get hyped, get chess. Reports will follow of the games.

If and one hopes I am alive in November and go, it will be a tie at the top:

World Championship Boxing fights - 3.
World Chess Championships - 3.
Eurovision Song Contest - 2.
Maybe she's born with it, maybe it's Maybelline.

Bit late on parade, sorry. So Fabiano Caruana wins the Candidates and will face Magnus Carlsen in that London in November.

Scores on the doors here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Candidate ... ament_2018

In round 12/14. Caruana was 7/11, Mamedyarov 6.5/11, Karjakin and Grischuk 6/11.

Caruana played Karjakin, (the 2016 loser v Carlsen) and lost to leave standings after 12 games:

Karjakin 7/12
Caruana 7/12
Mamedyarov 6.5/12
Grischuk 6.5/12
Liren 6.5/12

With two games to go, Karjakin led on tie breaks. This is copied from Mr Wiki:
In the penultimate round, Mamedyarov and Caruana defeated Grischuk and Aronian respectively, while Ding Liren and Karjakin drew their games. That gave Caruana a half-point lead over Karjakin and Mamedyarov going into the final round, with Ding a further half-point back. Caruana had worse tie breaks than Mamedyarov and Karjakin, so he had to finish ahead of both of them to win the tournament. Ding Liren also had a mathematical chance to win on tie breaks if all results went his way.[18]

In the last round, Karjakin pressed hard for a win with white against Ding, but after a blunder had to scramble for a draw. Meanwhile Mamedyarov managed to get a complicated game with black against Kramnik, but could not get enough winning chances and also drew. Caruana obtained a strong position with black against Grischuk and converted it to a win, even though the other games finished before his, meaning he only required a draw to win the tournament.[19]
So, Caruana, err one of my tips from last time, somewhere back here, the first yank since dear Bobby Fischer to play for the World title.

Karjakin v Caruana from round 12 with Jerry:

Carlsen v Caruana in that London in November. Will try to get to one of the first two games, probably the second on Saturday 10 November as away after that and first game will be full of cunts who probably don't want to be there. All #fakeforummeets welcome, Kow, Jock and others: https://london2018.worldchess.com/

Carlsen then played Caruana last week in the 2018 Grenke Chess Classic. Jerry again:

Will have Jerry and Danny King and again hopefully the legend Peter Svidler for reports come November.

And an aside, love this ad from Mesgan Amanov in a bewtiful building in Milwaukee.

One hour a week to increase 300pts within a few months and then become an expert or even a Master within a year. For one hour a week?

Maybe she's born with it, maybe it's Maybelline.

Nice of cunts Google to do their thing with Lyudmila Rudenko's 114th birthday. Indie: https://www.independent.co.uk/news/worl ... 65606.html Err, the chess loving Sun: https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/6874315/l ... -birthday/

Apart from the lovely Polgar sisters, dear old Nona Gaprindashvili deserves a note. Still winning World Senior Championships in her 70s. Top chess lass.

What is still queer in the world of chess is the World Championship in London in November. Awarded the host city last year, still nothing out there in terms of venue and tickets. Some rumours because of yank contestant Fabiano Caruana and maybe some yanks want to host.

Nothing is clear till tickets and details out, anything can happen. As per, remember in terms of how bent; FIFA good, IOC better, FIDE best.

Apart from the clock ticking down, nothing new has happened here for months: https://worldchess.com/london

Live coverage from St Louis of the second round of Sinquefield Cup 2018, Carlsen v Karjakin. Maurice Ashley one of the talking heads along with Yasser Seirawan and the very nice Jennifer Shahade:

Fascinating endgame. Should Karjarkin doubled rooks and then exchanged? Probably. From here and worth a watch:

See Carlsen post-game interview with dear old Maurice at 3h51s

This new version of the Grand Chess Tour is different. Instead of the London Chess Classic, there will be a finals in that London in December, TBA/TBC: https://grandchesstour.org/news-press-r ... our-finals not long after the World Championiships. Oh well, maybe another trip to that London.

Went to London Chess last year - 2 full days I spent there. Had a spiffing time. I am also a big fan of Maurice Ashley so saw alot of his interviews live as they were done in the commentary room. Have to say, he's a bit of a miserable fucker away from the cameras. I was quite surprised.

Trent and King did some shifts in the commentary room and they were great. I expect they will be there for the WCs.

Gonna go to the WC fo sho. Maybe games 4-5 something like that when they get into the swing of things.

Anyway, exciting week coming up as Gazza makes another reappearance - in chess 960.

Top stuff, Jock. Glad you had a good time at the London Chess Classic last year. Never heard Trent, but as per numerous videos, love Danny King. Maurice a miserable fucker when he is all gaiety in front of the camera, interesting. *

As per above, this years London Chess Classic has the semi and final of the 2018 Grand Chess Tour?: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Che ... _Tour_2018 Caruana playing less than a month after his WCC match with Carlsen. In December, might try to get down to that London depending on getting time off.

Get your tickets for the WCC. Game 4 and 5 are £45, paid 70 notes for game 2 but the only one could do as off stateside early Monday. Will try to follow all and post vidoes from Jerry on Chess Network, Danny King and if they are doing it again, Svidler and Gustafsson's live videos are excellent. See my post here and great dry stuff: https://talkforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f ... 5#p1019421

Interesting about Gazza and the Chess 960. Never played it, looks interesting as means no book theory, wonder if we could play that on chess.com?

* About Maurice, you must have seen this video of him beating the hustler in NY? Went to Washington Square Park last time in NY, some student ham acting, but no chess players there, was early though: :(

61 days and counting. 8)

Yes mate, you can play 960 on chess.com. I am starting to prefer it as I can't be arsed to learn the openings. Check out Calrsen v Nakamura 960 challenge from last year. It was mega exciting. I.e. -

Big fan of Gustie/Svidler commentary team but chess24 have now taken to charging to access the commentary in the big tournaments. I refuse to do that whilst the site is so slow and clunky. In which case I watch the Twitch stream of the 'Chessbrahs' with excellent commentary provided by Yasser Seirawan and Eric Hansen.

For your future reference should you not have access to WC coverage:

https://www.chessbrah.tv/

Sure you will have a great time at WC and GCT London if you can get to it. There is usually a really good vibe in the commentary room.

Cheers Jock. Now going to watch all 76 minutes of that video. 8) That's Jennifer Shahade with Yasser isn't it? Err, no, it's Anna Rudolf. Boo to chess24 charging for them, will watch Svidler and Gustafsson after on youtube then, but ta for the link to chessbrah, do like old Yasser as well.

We should get a game on of 960, will have more free time in a couple of weeks, will PM you. Have a good time as well if you go, will be my third WC and they are always great fun.

Watched the video, Jock. Darn I thought there was going to be a result. Well there was, but hey and a rare double bishop ending.

Of the vid itself, bad tech all round, mic noise, board not updating but enjoyed it. Anna Rudolf was quite demure, pondering if Yasser was Yasser or slightly seedy and patronising. Yes, he is a GM and she an IM. But enjoyed it and how before the middle game, the pieces were practically in classical chess development.

We must play this, I rate my chances as better out of book. :)
