Game 9 videos from Jerry and GM Danny. After Karjakin's win in game 8 with, black, will he go for a safe draw or continue to attack with white?:

Danny get's quite excitable at 9.50 after 41. b5 and Indiana Jones parallels:

Another Ruy Lopez and quite a decent game and Karjakin did go for a win. Carlsen fairly comfortably held it .

Best of 12, first to 6.5 wins:

Carlsen 4 - 5 Karjakin

Carlsen has white in game 10 and game 12. Got to hope he needs a win in game 12 fro tie breaks and has to go all out. Game 10. Schedule is:

Thursday 24 - Game 10
Friday 25 - Rest Day
Saturday 26 - Game 11
Sunday 27 - Rest Day
Monday 28 - Game 12

Game 10 and Casrlsen with white.

Jerry:

GM Danny:

Another Ruy Lopez and this time Karjakin's defensive skills cannot hold Carlsen back. The champion back on form and we have parity again. What will this do to Karjakin's mind with just two games left?

Best of 12, first to 6.5 wins:

Carlsen 5 - 5 Karjakin

Game 11 of 12, all square and Karjakin with white after a loss.

Jerry's vid, GM Danny's not up yet:

Another Ruy Lopez and I think the shortest game so far. Some option for Carlsen but safe for Karjakin.

GM Danny:

Best of 12, first to 6.5 wins:

Carlsen 5.5 - 5.5 Karjakin

So to the final game with Carlsen with white. Willl he go for it, knowing a win is victory? Will Karjakin try to trade quickly for a draw and try his luck in the rapidplay tie-breaks? We'll see Monday.

Tuned in for the game 12 decider after an hour and lo, all over: https://en.chessbase.com/post/newsblog- ... 6-11-28-en

Dear old Peter Svidler and Jan Gustafsson on for a short one to watch back:

Best of 12, first to 6.5 wins:

Carlsen 6 - 6 Karjakin

Chessbase tells the tie-break situation best:
Tie-breaks will start by four rapid games (25 min + 10 sec/move). If the score is level after that, five mini-matches consisting of two blitz games (5 min + 3 sec/move) per match will follow. If after these five blitz matches, we still do not have a winner, one sudden-death game will be hold. There, white is in a must-win-situation, but has five minutes while black only has four minutes, both players receive an increment of 3 seconds starting from move 61.

So all in all, the match could last for 15 games!

20.50 / 2.50 pm: "I didn't feel today was the day to take major chances." (Magnus Carlsen)

20.45 / 2.45 pm: Tiebreaks will start on Wednesday at 2 pm and last until they are over. Magnus will have black in the first game.

Interesting article which elaborates on what I've said about FIDE being as or more bent than FIFA and the IOC: https://www.bloomberg.com/features/2016 ... mpionship/

Good old Peter from 42.00 talking about watching England in India. :)

Bad old Peter and Jan just after not knowing the tournament draw rule is only after 30 moves bar threefold repetition. :(

Yay, tiebreaks and four rapidplays. And yay to Mugnus Carlsen; :) 8) The Master, the Grandmaster, some say greatest ever:

See the Guard commentary: https://www.theguardian.com/sport/live/ ... eaker-live

Best of 12, first to 6.5 wins:

Carlsen 6 - 6 Karjakin

Best of four rapidplay:

Carlsen 3 - 1 Karjakin

See also here: http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/mag ... mpionship/
Not seen these rapidplay games yet, but Carlsen was taken to the wire in standard play, Karjakin a master defender. On his 26th birthday as well, possibly best ever bests again.

Hey saintgeorge. Kowalski and I often play on chess.com. Join up there and either of us will give you a game if you want. Not much time before Christmas though, but New Year, plenty.

To round off the World Chess championship 2016 posts, here's Jerry on the rapidplay tie-breaks. Sounding hoarse as per a long series. Have to say, his analysis and Karjakin's defending in game 2 were both superb. Boo for me that in game 4 of rapidplay with Karjakin needing a win to stay alive and a blitz double header, we have a Sicilian. And how beautiful to win the world Chess Championship with a queen sacrifice. 8) :

GM Danny King also gets excited by the queen sac:

Will leave you with Magnus on winning. Some opine a dull set of games, little action, boring Ruy Lopez's but disagree. Had wonderful defence by Karjakin and with each game drawing the tension ramped up. Karjakin winning on game 8 left Carlsen four games to win one or lose his title. That he did win in game 10 and off to tie-breaks we went. Thouroughly enjoyed it all, and leaving with Jerry's thoughts, hope you got something out of it.

Maybe she's born with it, maybe it's Maybelline.
