I've been reading a story in a newspaper about Canada.
They refer to a ' residency lottery'. How does this work? For who?

It's a scam. Unsurprisingly.

I've never heard of that
I have heard of a green card lottery
Getting into canada, at the moment, is easy....simply a form filling exercise
I couldn't get into australia on the points system, my first choice
I love europe, but the same problems exist there as uk
grass is slightly greener, less hustle and bustle, but some scumbags too, proximity to usa is good....prairies to avoid, toronto etc for some culture, vancouver island for weather, nature etc
I just cannot see theuk improving, and as a conspiracy theorist, i am a bit of an amateur prepper, so i'm semi prepped over here....

Re: Canada for Paolo
Is it easy to get in, Paolo? I have thought about it, but never followed it through. I've got an HND and a few Highers so I doubt I'd get in, although the big girl is close to getting her PhD in Food Science.
I've only ever been to Ontario - family. And really enjoyed it, it is quite 'American' to me in culture but at the same time a bit 'British' too - holidays, money, phrases, e.g Corrie on TV etc and the huge links they have to the UK. Although I can imagine Toronto is very different to Halifax or St John's.
I've not been to Australia, but NZ whilst miles away felt a lot more like the UK than Canada did.

Re: Canada for Paolo
winters are long, obvioiusly the further north you get, i was on the beach in tofino this week at 23 celcius, somewhere else at the same time in northern bc or northern territories was -39....what a spread but it is a massive continent
i looked at the options, and weather plus other anti left wing factors were why i chose vancouver island....ski mountains, pacific ocean, lakes, forest etc, vancouver close as is usa and west coast
disgusting politically amongst many of the people, but other factors make up for it
sex seems to be freer, not sure why, some real redneck (can we still say that? sure as it's against certain types) communities, poverty abound, fuel prices nuts and some of my vehicles are guzzlers cheaper than blighty but still shit, 1.41 a litre today
still a chance to own land and build, play with diggers, shoot, great for wild animals
health care reasonable but blighty still great for that
basics are expensive, taxed to death
but decent weather from now until october
good for road trips long and short
went to port alice a few weeks ago, loads of logging roads for side by side or dirt bike or snowmobile if still laying
standard of eatery is grim
amount of people hooked on 420 and liberalism is grim
birds, even decent ones have a tendency to get tatted
noticing more of a change as regards immigration
hoping to set up the people's democratic republic of vancouver island.....armed forces and gun ships

Re: Canada for Paolo
i cross on the coho from victoria to port angeles is heading south, road trip in april, will be going this route, so all customs etc
if going east, i tend to cross at peace arch, normally quick
in montana just north of kalispell, was snowmobiling, and crossing over the border multiple times, the majority of the border, as it is a peaceful border is just fields, prairies and forest....there are areas that are patrolled
border always breached by transients and neer do wells, but there wasn't a massive issue with economic migrants
the have nots will always try to become the haves.....if you are central or south amercan....all you have to do is stroll accross the southern border and your lifestyle improves immeasurably
the haves must be protected....it's simply too late

Re: Canada for Paolo
Yeah I didn't mean that. I know you can cross the border easily , in fact I once went from Chicago into Windsor by mistake, then we drove back and no one bothered us in either direction.
That was years ago mind you, so I don't know if it's the same now.
No, I meant why not do it permanently, and don't stop in that North East crap hole end of the country , keep going to Dixie !

Re: Canada for Paolo
I have considered moving to Canada but my parents are elderly. I travelled there and I like the vastness of the country . Alberta seems good as there is lots of work if you’re willing to work hard and there’s good skiing and hiking . I’d like to visit novo Scotia though and the rest of the maritimes as I think I’d feel more at home there
