A few years back. My friend got married there, she's Indian, not some new age type. Spent time in Bangalore where she got married and in Tamil Nadu at the family home. Was wonderful; people, food (ate plenty of street food with no Delhi belly). Poverty is grim as you'd expect and the contrast between rich and poor, but was with Indian's mostly so didn't get much hassle. Her parents were upper middle class, we'd sit on the flat roof of their house, drinking beer, looking at the mountains. 100m away, they'd be whole families to a room. But even worse in the city on the streets.

But a lovely place, women are darned hot, would like to go back.

Been to Delhi for a holiday, hotel great, food lovely, tours a bit grim and poverty depressing, To be fair I find anywhere outside Europe a bit grim these days.

Bhopal is nice this time of year, you can even have a tour of the Union Carbide factory for 20 rupee's.

Not a big fan. They operate a Space Programme and still accept foreign aid and an unfair Caste System .
A bit like the UK really , but without the arranged marriage. I didn't get a bloody dowry for marrying the Memsaib.
Might have made a dent in the mortgage.

It's one of those places that I'd love to visit but it's just waaaay too much hassle, even if I could afford it, which I never have.
I used to feel the same about China. Not so much now, for some reason.

Have been watching The Real Marigold Hotel on BBC One that was all on India. They ended up at a place in the foothills of The Himalayas. Looks an absolutely stunning place especially if you have a few bob. Much better climate as well.

Yeah, saw the first show in the series. Haven't followed it to be honest, enjoyed finding out about the French colonial history in the town they were staying in.
