Greggs

Post by kancutlawns »

Never really understood the fascination. Go in after 3pm and chances are the pasties fillings are tepid and congealed with the pastry burnt and crusty. Donuts are ok I suppose.

Sausage rolls are banging.

However I do resent paying a quid for one, seeing as not that long ago you could get 4 for the same price.

My one closed down over lockdown.

They made amazing pork pies as well. Sad times.

Our local Greggs suffered a blow when the 'Pound Bakery' opened close by. Then they recovered when the PB shut because that part of the shopping centre was demolished to build a large supermarket.
Then lately they've suffered again when the Pound Bakery returned directly opposite using premises of a furnishing shop that went out of business.
Of course Greggs made a fight of it by going all continental. You can [or could before lock-down] sit outide at their chairs and tables while nibbling a pasty.

Pound Bakery have sit-down places too.

Can you imagine the meeting where someone said "here's my idea...we undercut Greggs"

Only been to Greggs, over 15 years ago (I think I got an egg sandwich in a bus station).
