Best parts of the UK. The only area which can equal is the Lake District imo.

The most North Westerly village in the UK. Some of the best beaches in the country are in the area and the fearsome sounding Cape Wrath isn't far away.

The Mrs and i stumbled upon it when we did our own pre-cursor to the North West 500 about 15 years back +

Been back several times since. Lots of changes since we first went. A lot more choices of accommodation.

The nearest city is Inverness and it's a good 2 and a half hour drive away. You're quite literally in the arse end of no where.
Have you been up to John O’Groats or Wick, Shabs? I’ve not been north of Inverness which I’d like to do. Would like to go to the Outer Hebrides too but need a significant of time to drive up there. The east coast by rail from Edinburgh to Aberdeen is a lovely and scenic, going past the verdant lawns and golf courses in Carnoustie and Arbroath.

Hi Lawns, yeah I've been to both John O'Groats and Wick. If you want to go to the most Northerly point on the mainland skip John O'Groats and head for Dunnet Head. John O'Groats isn't worth the effort in my opinion.

A new tourist route started maybe 10 years back and the Scottish Government have done a lot to promote it. It's called the North West 500. It takes you round the top part of Scotland starting and finishing in or near Inverness. Well worth looking into. The Western half of the route is a lot more dramatic scenery wise than the Eastern half. Lots of single track roads to navigate as well
A joyless arsehole.

Cheers Shabs. Can’t get enough of Scotland and the natural beauty there. Been north of the border ten times since the left time so went to the Lake District which I think as beautiful as that is is a mini version of Scotland.

Very interesting prog on Cornwall by Simon Reeve, if you haven’t seen it catch up on iplayer. Was only on a few weeks ago.

Whilst so many beautiful places, parts of Cornwall are as run day as anywhere in the country. Everything that goes with high levels of unemployment are there.

Don’t tell Heenan about Simon Reeve. Thanks for the heads up on his Cornwall series, I’ll look out for it. Watched some of Rick Stein’s cookery series about Cornwall.

Yeah this is sadly a feature of many of earth's regions. Simon Reeve's good at highlighting that in his programmes.

Purely in terms of natural beauty and weather, the west country wins the acolade of UKs best part for me. I love it even in the winter. People seem so laid back compared to city types.

Special shout out to bournemouth beach too.

No, nay, never, Henry. :( Old blues was a fan as well. Horrible in three seasons bar winter. And plays so much on the not twee. Ditto Aldeburgh.
