Andy McFlurry has been helping clear the snow up in Scotland , but he’s broken down against the more difficult conditions.

I've had my outing in the snow for today, I've cleared my path and collected the newspapers, that's it for today.
Unless the snow is so deep people can’t get to your front door why bother?

Because it makes it easier for those who DO come to the door, like the postman and parcel delivery a little while ago, and because it's what people who don't have a 'why bother' attitude do.
If the London Borough of Barnet isn't in London where is it?

Sorry birdie, but I'm with Ralph.
As I found to my cost many years ago, clearing the path can often lead to the melted snow freezing and creating black ice.
I've still got the scar on my head to prove it.

Well, you obviously didn't clear it properly, the bit I cleared is now drying as the sun has come out and the only thing glinting isn't ice it's the salt I put on, so I'll carry on shovelling, sweeping and sprinkling salt.
Edit, Soz, that sounded a bit churlish, but I've always cleared and salted my path, I sprinkle salt when a hard frost is forecast, daft perhaps, but I make sure it's properly cleared and the salt does stop it freezing just long enough for it to dry, usually.

Right. It makes it more slippy. Better just to wait for the snow to melt.

If you don't clear it properly it makes it more dangerous than leaving it, but the operative word is 'properly', that is why people don't clear their frontage, if someone slips on an uncleared footpath it's 'an act of God', if they slip on a badly cleared path it's down to the person who cleared it, but I wonder why other countries don't have a problem with clearing snow from paths a footpaths, I believe that in Germany everyone has to clear their frontage by law, they have to be bothered.
