John Lewis
Their profits are down 99% on last year . Another nail in the coffin for British retailers. Unless online business are taxed properly thousands will lose their jobs. I’m not surprised Waitrose is struggling as Lidl and Aldi are much better value . People have less money to spend these days due to sky high mortgages and increasing energy bills and stagnant wages

Theyre lovely stores, dont get me wrong, I love looking around them for ideas on what to buy for literally half the price online.
What do they expect when they overcharge so terribly?
Theres no sympathy involved, justdont charge 3 grand for a sofa I can get for 700 elsewhere.
Its fucking simple. If you try and rip people off, theyll suss it out eventually.

And also, I would suspect their penchant for building shopping centres with their store as the centrepiece has somewhat eaten into their profits and will continue to do so for many years.

People are stupid enough to buy everything on credit and get sucked into a lifetime of debt oh and Christmas is coming. What’s different now?

Re: John Lewis
From what I've read Waitrose profits are down 12% or even though they sold more, that's more to do with the weakish pound than any underlying trend that folks are jumping ship to the cheaper operators imo. The sharp elbowed pensioners at my local are still grabbing their free cappuccinos with a packet of mentos.

You think John Lewis is too expensive and don’t want to go the “chavvy shops”. Do you only care about your image? Don’t be too proud, Poundland is fine I can get cheap, convenient stuff. I don’t go there to make a fashion statement because the media tells me to.
