I don’t know about now, but some examples from my past.
Boy smuggles air pistol into school. In a lesson shoots a girl in the leg. Got three day suspension.
General warning from head. Anyone passing drugs would be expelled. Soon after boy caught doing just that. Stern talking to.
Governors finally had to deal with one boy. His ‘charge sheet’, put into legalese, assault, indecent assault, sexual harassment, theft, demanding money with menaces. He was expelled.
Heads and governors were very wary of expelling, rather than just suspension for a few days, because the offender’s parents would go to appeal where they would be reinstated.
Of course, air pistols apart, a few years ago knives didn’t come into school problems.

Asda are going to stop selling single knives.
Maybe we should ban them altogether rather than enforce the law on everyone .

Yep, let's punish the responsible again. If someone wants to obtain a knife to break they law they will, but Asda have to be the guardians of virtue, harbouring some silly belief that they are going to sell more products.

Fair points
But apart from locking people up, any ideas of how to stop it in the first place?

The Met. have asked to remove the requirement for an officer to suspect you of a crime before they can detain you in the street and search you - happily, the Home Office has told them to get fucked. The s44 farce still in their minds.

They have models in the UK that have reduced knife crime - it seems no one wants to pay for it.

That is a different issue, for which my views are well documented. What we are talking about here, is a building a cardboard fence to stop a hurricane. A complete waste of time.

If you could stop crime before it happened you'd never have to lock anyone up, but you can't so the best chance is to discourage it by example and consequence

Shocking news Mark !
We're just putting the Sunday joint in and I'm going to see whether I can separate it into portions with a chisel and some pliers.
I did think of getting mince instead but I was scared to say that word in the butchers for fear of offending anyone or unwittingly committing a hate crime.
