It’s Boris making Ken Clarke sound like a Eurosceptic.

What. A. Charlatan.

The Tory leadership race is turning into a Boris coronation. Assuming he does win. How long before Brexit supporting politicians/media commentators are accusing him of betrayal?

It's Boris Johnson suggesting that Turkey should be admitted to the EU before the referrendum and before Turkey went nuts in terms of human rights.
I seem to recall that David Cameroon was pushing that at the time too.

He says that the EU had aspirations to rejoin the Eastern and Western empires - what do you suggest that we take from that ?

I'm not at all sure that BoJo will win , since the favourite rarely does. He's a politician, so it follows that he's a lying arsehole, but who cares ?
If he can deliver a no deal BREXIT , he'll do as well as anyone else.

During the referendum campaign he and others tried to scare people with the idea that Turkey was about to join. That was very clearly a part of the Leave message.

Remain countered with the point that at that time Turkey was nowhere near meeting the conditions for membership, and that people thought it would take between 10 years and never for them to join.

That was touted alongside the European army, which is no nearer reality and which we could have vetoed anyway.

The lies were not confined to the £350m one.

I don't understand how you reconcile your frequent expression of your disgust with politicians lying and serving their own interests, with your support of the worst examples of exactly those things.

People often don't mind politicians lying if it increases the chances of a scenario which they wish for.

What like democracy requires the people to vote again re leaving or staying in the EU, western political civilisation would be destroyed if the UK voted 'Leave', we would be closer to WW3 if we left the EU, there would be a recession if we voted leave and three million would lose their jobs.

Loads more to choose from.

Hillman,

Oddly enough Hillman, the strange person I ignore has got it exactly right there.
Politicians are all crooks, and none of them are concerned with the best outcome for everyone. However , their personal agendas sometimes coincide with that , and that's why we hope they succeed.
Boris is a clown, a cheat and a liar, but if he can deliver a no deal BREXIT in the current circumstances none of that matters . I don't care what happens to him or the Conservative party after that because they're not my friends and they're not the friends of my country or my people.
By the way, they all lie all the time and I'm sure remain told just as many lies as BREXIT and that's happened in every political campaign , so this thing about busses and the NHS is just bloody silly. You should be old enough to know that people generally don't believe what candidates say in elections , they just make their own choices on the issue.
Same as this thing. I think BoJo is the best choice but I don't like him particularly and I don't believe a word he says - just a matter of expediency

Johnson is clearly the best bet to deliver what the country voted for, but he can't save his party.

The establishment candidate predictably walking it.

Unless he falls under a bus or decides he doesn’t want to be PM after all he’s going to win. It’s a coronation not a contest.

Agree with all that. Politics is a dirty business which is pervaded by liars, cheats, philanderers, perverts, capitalists and socialists who are power crazed zealots. To pretend otherwise is an act of folly. On an individual level, we all have tunnel vision and want to overlook all that shit when voting for the one who we think has the getter attributes.

No point just crying about it and yet having no answers when asked who would be a better candidate or party.

Yes, but if that’s who the party faithful will go for, what could you or I or anyone else who opposes him do about it? Just do what I do and have a good old chuckle. Why get all angry and stressed over it, the past three years of Trump protests haven’t really achieved anything have they?
