People tweet or go onto social media to complain about anything they don't like, they are incapable of going to the ballot box so launch campaigns to get people sacked from their jobs, prosecuted and have their livelihoods damaged. You grew up in a generation where people had a tougher hide and could edgy comments, I remember the tail end of that generation of humour and just despair at things nowadays, I really do and I know you do too.

Absolutely, you're a very decent chap whether or not we might disagree on some political issues, and that's why I couldn't brush over it when you posed a question .
The whole point is to highlight that free speech isn't supposed to be selective.

It's a very similar thing to pointing out racism ,in the form of labour anti semitism. The overwhelming majority of people in all parties aren't big racists, yet socialists have automatically made ridiculous allegations that everyone else are racists for so long that they can't cope with it when they receive the same comments .

What you imply, even if you don't say it in so many words is correct . We should return to being a more tolerant society, but that tolerance can't be selective as it currently is.

Do you think that everyone should be allowed to make jokes about throwing battery acid in people's faces, or that everyone shouldn't be allowed to do it?

Yes, but which of those consistencies would you prefer? If you want the same rule for everyone, which is it - everyone being allowed to say battery acid should be thrown in people's faces, or nobody being allowed to say it?

I'd wonder whether she'd switched identities with a patient, except that she's John Sargeant's sister so we know it's really her.

I firmly believe in freedom of speech, - especially for comedians, but draw the line at saying something that could actually incite others to violence, as in this case. Acid attacks are fairly common these days, and given the hatred that her side of politics has engendered against farage and like-minded people, - her comments should have, in my opinion, been edited out.
Her 'joke' was just a re-hash of a previous one she used some years ago, about posting excrement through right-wing politicians' letterboxes.
It is just the hypocrisy of her mindset that I think has riled so many though - she'll happily make sure that someone is sacked for saying something that she finds offensive (Carol Thatcher) but thinks she can say what she likes.
Anyone (such as Tick) that uses 'gammon' as a racial pejorative is as much a racist as those who use the word nigger and similar pejoratively.

Good point. I’d forgotten about that.

I think Jo Brand’s joke was misjudged. It’s something you can imagine happening in this febrile atmosphere so it isn’t funny. Same goes for rape 'jokes'. I hope nobody on here who’s criticised Jo Brand defended that wierdy Ukip YouTuber.

Can't have it both ways Ralph. Either everyone gets free speech and humour is allowed or it's not .
You can't continue to have two different views depending on whether you agree with the
" offender" or disagree with them politically.

Danny Baker gets sacked, Jo Brand is supported.
Hardly an impartial broadcaster then , is it ?

There's a great deal of public concern at the moment amongst elderly people and Jewish people , already vilified by the left, who have no alternative but to go out to collect their pensions.
The best advice is to avoid anyone who looks unwashed or workshy , since they are probably the most likely to sympathise with that side of politics and possibly act upon the BBC' s calls to throw acid.

Be ready to render first aid if you witness such political violence -

What to do in an acid attack to help yourself and others

Don't rinse the burn area with dirty water as it can cause severe infection. ...
Remove all the jewellery or clothing which had contact with acid. ...
If possible, use sterilised gauze to loosely wrap the affected area.
