Taxi drivers,how would they function.
Drop off and return to base for next call
The good old days
We're just two lost souls
Swimming in a fish bowl
Year after year

There's a couple of things I'd to improve road safety. First I'd ban satnavs altogether as they are a distraction. We were far safer back in the old days with an open A to Z in one hand and the steering wheel in the other.

Second we should reduce the speed limit to 15mph everywhere with no exceptions. I find it quite difficult to write and send a text message while driving at stupid speeds like 40 or 50. If they were lowered across the board to something really low we could multitask which would be a great benefit to a lot of us.

Someone, somewhere in government is probably considering banning satnavs and a 15 mph limit (though not for the reasons you give!) As a really good safety idea.

On a serious note, if hands free calling is a supposed distraction, then satnavs are as well surely?

The law on driving is crystal clear, the driver is there to drive the car in safe manner.

If the driver self distracts from their main function and causes an accident they are guilty.

Changing the heating - distraction.
Talking to passenger - distraction.
Lighting up and smoking a ciggie - distraction.
Using any type of car gadget - distraction.
Using the phone whatever the method - distraction.

The driver's job is to keep their eyes on the road and conditions and nothing else.

Car gadgets have probably caused more accidents, incidents and deaths than any other road traffic accident.

You missed out constantly monitoring the speedo , or even simply glancing at it.

For split seconds, not the time and concentration needed for a phone, especially texting.

Being followed by the Police is dangerous as well and should be banned. Constantly dividing your time up between looking out the back mirror and the speedo could cause you to slam into a lamp post.

Maybe one solution would be to raise the speed limit to a minimum of 60 so drivers aren't actually on the road as long thus there's less chance of an accident?

Having the radio on is dangerous since it can distract you.

Driving with little kids in car is dangerous as they can distract you

Driving with mother in law in car is dangerous as just her presence can be distracting

Driving with a dog in car is dangerous as dog barks, whines and shits everywhere

Driving with babies in car is dangeeous as baby cries or the shit from nappy stinks

I read somewhere that having a cold is the equivalent of a couple of beers or somesuch, - no doubt the safety extremists (one for horatio) will call for anyone who feels under the weather to stay off the roads also?
Anyone (such as Tick) that uses 'gammon' as a racial pejorative is as much a racist as those who use the word nigger and similar pejoratively.

FFS
Yes there are many potential distractions for drivers.
Yes you would hope someone not fit to drive doesn't do so.
But NEITHER of those are arguments for preventing a cause of accidents if you can do so.

Yep

Also billboards with sultry women need to be banned as its distraction for male drivers

On double decker buses around my end theres a picture of a gorgeous blonde. That needs to be banned as male drivers can be distracted

Women on their periods shouldn't be driving either. Its distracting

Young well stocked men shouldn't be working on roadsides as they could distract women drivers

What about gorgeous girls walking on the pavement?

They too can distract men from driving.

Cows should be kept well away from the roads as the manure can distract too
