All those above names applied to the perpetrators of literally dozens of serial killings, murders and rapes in the Sacramento and central California area from the mid seventies to mid eighties.

It was always suspected that the crimes where connected in some way, whether by a gang, a duo, or even the same man was a area of great debate.

Usually the crimes suspected by the murderer named EAR/ONS (East Area Rapist/Original Night Stalker) were the ones that got the most publicity as it was very early suspected that they were carried out by the same guy. But for years it floundered, nothing new emerging and the case seemed to be going into history as California's Jack the Ripper in that everyone had a favourite suspect but it was unlikely that the case would ever be proved. Most reckoned that the murderer was long dead.


Until two days ago, when a breakthrough in DNA evidence led to the arrest of 72 year old Joseph DeAngelo, an ex cop from Auburn California who was a serving officer at the time of some of the murders and rapes. He is also now suspected in the murder of another police officer and was kicked off the force for shoplifting a hammer in 1979.
The DNA sample they got from him is apparently a 100% match to whatever DNA they have remaining from the older crime scenes from all the names in the thread title and he is believed to be cooperating fully with the police.


This has come right out the blue as these crimes were never thought to be close to ever being resolved. And if you're a true crime podcast aficionado like me then you will know how big a deal this case is.


And this only weeks after a Bruce McArthur was charged with being the Toronto Gay Village Killler who has been picking up and murdering god knows how many gay men in that area for maybe 20 years.


Next up I hope they do crack a personal favourite (though that doesn't seem the appropriate word), a still very much active one, the Long Island Serial Killer.

That is some freaky 'True Detective' type shit right there - the amazing first series not the shitty Colin Farrell one.

Bent cops, possible cooperating serial killers, freaky coincidences, a mad one legged doctor who seems to know more than he should, murders of victims family members, transgenders getting offed maybe by mistake, practically everything.

There are literally hundreds of true crime podcasts, Easty. Some excellent most not so much.
