Migrant boat crisis
It’s good the new Italian government dont want to be swamped with economic migrants and have turned that ship away. Africa is not Europe’s problems. We have high youth unemployment in Europe . African economies are some of the fastest growing in the world so they’d be better to stay there. It’s no wonder people voted to leave the eu

So do you know which African countries these migrants come from then? Does it occur to you that just perhaps they’re coming from countries where there is civil war, high unemployment, drought, famine and Benedict Cumberbatch? They’re only blacks though so I suppose it doesn’t matter.

Re: Migrant boat crisis
Let's say the EU did not exist.
Exactly the same problem would be presenting itself.
So the EU is not the issue.
As for freedom of movement, that only applies to citizens. These people are not citizens and it would take at least 5 years for them to achieve the status of citizen.

Re: Migrant boat crisis
Italy has had thousands landing on the island of Lampadusa which is only a few miles off the N African coast, the island can't cope, has asked for help, Italy can't cope, I don't know how many have landed in Malta, but there must be a reason for Malta to say 'No',
It seems that there are people on that boat who are from W Africa, so they must have travelled hundreds of miles across Africa to even get to N Africa, goodness only knows what they have been promised, and it seems that there are unaccompanied minors, sending kids across is often used as a means of getting adults who otherwise would be refused entry, into a country on the grounds that they are family members of the minors.
A few months ago a report on the news said that the boat people only wanted to be picked up by the British carrier patrolling the Med as they were told it was 'British soil' and the same as landing in Britain, it seems that they were furious when told it wasn't so and they would be landed in Italy.
This has been going on for several years now, and the majority can't be called refugees as the countries they are coming from are not in conflict, but for the life of me I can't see what can be done,
Much as it has to be deplored, I can understand why Italy has done what it has, and some of the Greek islands can't cope either, but now that Spain has said they will take the boat, word will get around very soon and the boats will make for Spain instead of Italy, nd the trafickers will charge that bit more because of the longer journey.
