Before it began almost everyone was in general agreement that we should, all being well, get though to the quarters. Somehow this is now being sold as a spectacular achievement.

There's always one team that does that, though, but not always from South America. In 70 it was the Romanians, I recall.
Surely part of the preparation should be to practice NOT getting wound-up over it. They can't use it to waste time any more, and by-and-large it doesn't influence the refs, it's just for nuisance-value, and to get the opposition so furious that they forget the game-plan.
Luckily, hardly anyone gets hit in the mouth, and have to be carried off.
