You do know one of the hitchhiker novels (the third) was originally written as a film script for a Dr Who movie? And that Douglas Adams was employed as a script editor for Dr Who? It was also thanks to Dr Who (to whom he sent the original Hitchhikers script) that he got his first writing break with the BBC.
He also wrote 14 episodes of the show.
In effect without Dr Who there may well have never been any Hitchikers.
