If it's OK for Zoe Ball

Post by VeritasVincit »

If it's OK for Zoe Ball to switch the clubs she supports, surely it's OK to swap one's nationality.

An absolute farce. He was born and brought up in England, therefore he is English, so he should not have represented ROI.

However, as he has now played for Ireland, no way should he be allowed to play for England.

And the time, investment and planning with the player that the Irish setup have done. Unfair on the them.

Yes as ROI would never dream of picking English players themselves. Oh wait...

But seriously, all's fair in love and war and the lad is just trying to better himself. As will be the case when he moves on from West Ham sooner or later.

For years the FOI have exploited the international football rules to take English and Northern Irish born players into their teams. They did this because players born in the Republic were not good enough and they benefited by getting to quarter finals of major tournaments.

Now when a country does the same to them they cry foul and the loudest voices complaining in the media are plastic paddies like Andy Townsend and Tony Cascarino.

Do me a favour.

Rugby and Cricket are different as you can switch after playing in competitive matches (or at least you could in the past).

And Scottish, e.g. Ray Houghton, James McCarthy, Aiden McGeady, etc.

At one point, most of the Irish team wasn't even Irish, with the likes of Cascarino, McCarthy, Townsend, Houghton, Hughton, Aldridge etc
Think McGrath and O'Leary were the only Irish people in that team.

Correct. Brady and Stapleton were at least Irish by birth but then Charlton elbowed them out of the team and gradually out of the squad when they objected to the style of play.
