Cricket World Cup

Post by delboy1983 »

England quite rightly favourite for this .
But oh, they will need to live up to the hype which will be considerable especially on Talksport.
First game against South Africa must be won or pressure will be cranked up.
I will however be backing England to win this one.

Always wondered why there wasn't a Test-version of the Cricket World Cup.

Hopefully you'll be supporting England, del. No reason not to.

Great fun watching the highlights of previous World Cups on Sky and still can't believe that we picked Chris Tavare as opener in every game of the 1983 tournament. Safe to say the game has evolved a bit since then.

They have a good chance, but no more than that.
There are plenty of good ODI sides at the moment.
I expect them to get to the semis, then anything can happen.

Home advantage bound to be a huge plus.

You can't really plan to win a World Cup (or any knockout tournament), anything can happen on a given day that affects the outcome.

I think we'll be enjoyable to watch which is a bonus given our pathetic efforts in the last 5 World Cups.

England the ONLY major test nation not to get their hands on the trophy, and with The Ashes right on the back of it.
Hopefully they will not get Test-Rusty before they play the Aussies.

Utter bullshit. The format of the tournament, where you have 9 games before the knockout and 4 teams qualify, is specifically designed so the top teams make it through. You can probably afford to lose 3 or even 4 matches and still go through.

Also, to anyone going on about home advantage - 9 out of the 11 previous world cups have not been won by the host nation.

Our media think differently they already have the points in the bag and defeat is not possible.
A defeat in the first game will start the wrong headlines.
Pressure will be on game 2 etc.
My comment was aimed at the media not the team.

The OD game has got boring. Flat tracks, big thick bats, bowlers who haven't got a fucking clue about line and length, and balls disappearing into the crowd. Same old.

Spot on, ODC is tedious.
Advantage weighted too far with the batsmen.
Bores me to tears.

Much rather have a day at the test match. Where nothing happening perversely can be engrossing.
Well for me anyway.....
