Re: State of the Forum
Isn't that just the direct dial number which doesn't have to go through a translation site to convert it from talkforum.co.uk to the easily remembered 23.229.203.186 ?
There shouldn't be any difference.

I'm guessing it's because if you log in on 23.229.203.186 it'll set a cookie for talkforum.co.uk and the two don't match. (Although talkforum.co.uk resolves to 23.229.203.186 and in that way they're the same, but letter for letter they're different and that's what the browser will be checking when it's looking for the cookie.)
I really am a biatch

Preety much that's it. All the internal cookie controls are set to point at talkforum.co.uk so if somebody is accessing via the 23.229.203.186 address they will still be able to access the site but cookies and session controllers will screw up based on mismatches.

Re: State of the Forum
Squiggle message? Seems like a code for something.
Around that time on the logs there was a fair amount of bit activity but not anything that looked alarming. For a 5 minute swap out like that and an SQL error message a little bt earlier seems like the hsting service maybe making some adjustments to their operational settings.
They don't care for sending warnings or alerts when they do these things. Hopefully now all is good.
