The Boksic at Middlesbrough stories I hear are superb. Bloke was casual as anything both on the pitch and off it but still oozed class.Northern Troglodite wrote: ↑Sat May 23, 2020 6:43 pm Schwartzer

1.58 on this video. My favourite Serie A goal from the Football Alitalia days. Absolutely disgusting, even the keeper applaudsZippy wrote: ↑Sat May 23, 2020 6:51 pmThe Boksic at Middlesbrough stories I hear are superb. He scored a brilliant goal at Filbert St once, ran from his own half, shrugged off defenders then delicately chipped the keeper from about 25 yards.
One of those strange signings that less fashionable teams made back in the early 00's- Okocha, Djorkaeff, Campo at Bolton, Van Der Sar at Fulham, Mendieta at Middlesbrough too, Dugarry at Birmingham- top class players who seemed too good for the clubs they joined, played superbly and you wondered how they signed them.

About 50 seconds into this video. Uncannily similar to the one I posted aboveJW90 wrote: ↑Sat May 23, 2020 8:06 pmHe scored a brilliant goal at Filbert St once, ran from his own half, shrugged off defenders then delicately chipped the keeper from about 25 yards.

Some fantastic stories about Hopkins and his Blues-supporting family. My mate played in a youth team with him.

Re: Your teams best 11 (that you have seen)
Heard a football podcast (Under the Cosh) the other day with an ex-Boro player (might be Windass?) There were a few Boksic stories. Boksic used to fly in Croatian beauties to live with him on short-term contracts before making a change a few months later. This continued throughout his tenure on Teesside. Apparently he also offered to personally pay up Noel Whelan's contract just so he didn't have to play alongside him again

I always rated Merson very highly, and people couldn’t understand why.Northern Troglodite wrote: ↑Sat May 23, 2020 6:43 pm Schwartzer

He had a great football brain.
If he had stayed off the sauce he could have been sensational.
I like him as a person too.

Boro had some remarkable looking teams back then- Juninho, Ravanelli, Emerson, Festa and Branco mixed in with Neil Cox, Phil Stamp and Curtis Fleming. Good enough to reach two cup finals yet be relegated too.
