Cornwallis Stakes G3 over 5F at Newmarket on Fri.

Method had no chance when saddle slipped in Middle Park latest. Patiently ridden, effort around 2f mark, not quicken, kept on well inside last to take second, but for the mishap in the Middle Park this race wouldn't have figured in connections plans, drop in distance & going conditions not playing to strengths. Potential still there under right conditions for sprint division next term.

Fillies Mile G1 over 1M at Newmarket on Fri.
Good renewal

Indigo Girl overcame inexperience to win G2 May Hill latest. Progressed again in defeat here, travelled well, headway around 3F mark, kept on well business end to take second. Despite being beaten fair & square there is reason for optimism particularly as she's relatively inexperienced compared to the winner also didn't handle the Dip very well. Would imagine Guineas then Oaks next term, remains open to further improvement.

Zabeel Queen finished a slightly disappointing third in May Hill latest. Ran to a similar level as last time on softer going than previously encountered, lack of cover in early stages not helping her cause, only third visit to track and not one to give up on, remains of interest.

Nursery Handicap C2 over 7F at Newmarket on Sat.

Tawaareq was making handicap bow off mark of 84 following maiden win latest. Made little impression from a poor draw and on softest going encountered so far, needs further than this and type to make up into nice 3yo when given a stiffer test of stamina, remains of interest.

Handicap C2 over 1M 2F 56yds at York on Sat.

Matthew Flinders raised 5lb for win in C2 handicap over 1M latest. Back up to 10F, headway approaching 2f mark, weakened inside last, shaped better than bare result, emptying out at business end on softer going. Has stayed this trip on faster ground but best performance has come over 1M off a strong pace, ran off 97 here likely to remain on same mark when assessed. Holds entry for Balmoral, remains with potential when encountering more favourable conditions.

Autumn Stakes G3 over 1M at Newmarket on Sat.

One Ruler failed to build on maiden promise in Listed event latest. Up in grade & distance bounced back here reverting to more positive tactics, travelled strongly, effort around 2F mark, quickened to lead business end, kept on well. Took a nice step forward seeing out this longer trip well, on this evidence Guineas would be a reasonable starting point for next term although should stay further, open to further progress.

Megallan second in Conditions event latest. Upped in grade put in a decent performance and better than the fourth place finish suggests, travelling well when no room around 3F mark he got shuffled back and was forced to switch approaching business end before running on late. Certainly not one to give up on, should stay further, open to further progress.

Latest Generation upped markedly in class following maiden win latest. Ran with credit and another who shaped better than finishing position suggests, did himself no favours running up with pace early on and paid price business end, remains open to improvement.

Maximal facile winner of novice event latest. Up markedly in grade slightly disappointed, failed to handle the Dip and didn't look entirely at home on the softer surface, took a keen hold early on and was doing too much too soon on the front end. All in all happy to give him another chance, particularly when stepped up in trip.

Dewhurst Stakes G1 over 7F at Newmarket on Sat.
Up to scratch renewal.

St Mark's Basilica good third in G1 National Stakes latest and re routed here following withdrawal from Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere on Arc day due to contaminated feed issues. Held up, travelled well, led around 2f mark, kept on well inside last, delivered on earlier promise displaying a level of form that sent him to head of Guineas market. Best horse on the day and another nice step forward here, will stay 1M, open to further improvement.

Wembley good second in G1 National Stakes latest. In rear, pushed along halfway mark, headway business end, stayed on, progressed again here doing best work at finish confirming will be suited by step up to 1M+. Still holds Futurity entry so might see him again before being put away for season.

Thunder Moon sent off fav following impressive display in G1 National Stakes latest. Travelled strongly, challenged business end, no extra inside final 100 yds, good run given he was stuck out on the wing for most of the journey causing him to tire in closing stages. Will stay 1M and should be a leading player in that division next term, remains open to improvement.

Devilwala second in G2 Gimcrack before disappointing in G2 Mill Reef latest. First run for new stable (previously with Archie Watson now with Ralph Beckett) upped in trip belied 100/1 odds with a fine run albeit grabbing the rail from favourable draw. Led, shaken up around 2f mark, headed, kept on inside last, always a bit wary when circumstances like this lead to an improved performance, so credit where it's due but remains to be seen if he can back this up.

Cadillac impressive winner of G2 Champion Juvenile Stakes latest. Saw good market support but below form here, travelled well, shaken up around 2f mark, hung right, not quicken inside last. Didn't look fully at home on track as evidenced by hanging when asked for effort, better judged on previous efforts on sounder surface, remains capable of better.

Albasheer progressed from maiden company to finish second in G2 Champagne Stakes latest. First outing on a softer surface than previously encountered but apart from that looks to have been beaten fair & square here, not the end of the world by any means as looks a scopey type so every chance of improvement from two to three.

Fivethousandtoone good second in G2 Mill Reef latest. Travelled well, shaken up around 2f mark, every chance business end, not quicken, didn't improve as expected for the step up in distance and possibly mounted challenge too early, overall shaped better than finishing position would suggest. Well worth another try over this trip particularly on a sounder surface, remains with potential.

Devious Company simply outclassed at this level.

Chindit impressive winner of G2 Champagne Stakes latest. Travelled well, not clear run around 2f mark, shaken up inside last, no extra, no getting away from it this was a poor run, hung right some of the way and wasn't persevered with once chance had gone. Earnt a pass for this on strength of previous form.

Tactical faced a tough task at this level and so it proved, well held. Had a decent season, won the Windsor Castle at RA and G2 July Stakes but limitations exposed in last three outings in G1 company.

Alkumait very impressive in G2 Mill Reef latest. Supplemented for this, pulled his way to challenge pace early on, dropped away tamely when asked for effort business end, cost connections the thick end of £32k to confirm that his game is sprinting. Commonwealth Cup a likely target next term and remains open to improvement over 6F.

Novice event over 7F 3yds at Yarmouth on Mon.

Aquaman finished down the field in novice event latest. Led, quickened around 1f mark, headed inside last, much better run on a more conventional track but unfortunately bumped into a decent sort here, finished well clear of rest, up to landing something similar.

I must say I hate this “Quipco British Champions Day”.

Back end of the season, usually run in soft going, no 2 year old races, most of the good older horses missing and those that do show up....Magical, Stradivarius, Circus Maximus, Dream of Dreams to mention a few from yesterday...over the top or using it as a prep for the Breeder’s Cup.

And I wish they would move the Champion Stakes back to Newmarket over a straight ten furlongs.

That once great race has no place at Ascot.

Sad news from Oz following the Melbourne Cup.

2019 Derby winner, Anthony Van Dyck, was put down after breaking a leg in the race.

The Cup was won by the Joseph O’Brien trained Twilight Payment, with Aiden’s runner, Tiger Moth, finishing second.

I much prefer the breeders cup being held at more glamorous track than keenland. Nowhere here as good as Santa Anita and Belmont for example.
Seems like Southwell or Catterick.
