"Val. Pete and John" was my era. I didn't watch every episode, and I never collected tin-foil.
It was always there, though, showing me how to do things for myself, and in John's case, how to demonstrate manliness without being an "alpha-male". Climbing up Nelson's Column, though, while joking about it, and always treating Val as an equal.

Collecting tin-foil, or whatever the Xmas Appeal did that year, was such a brilliant concept. It was something every child could do, to help others, even if you didn't have spare money to send. Every child could do their bit.
