Although I know very little about football, I appreciated Gary's tenacity and passion for the game. Richardson and Gary's wife Louise approached his personal life and the topic of suicide in a down-to-earth and honest way. In one chapter, she recalls the children, then only a few years old, asking Gary to play football with them after dinner, a bonding time he loved: "Will you be Alan Shearer this time, Dad?!" I literally teared up.

His loved ones and friends will forever ask themselves "why?" God bless his wife and children.
